Big shout out to YOLB for their efforts and their hard work. They worked hard on learning Khmer symbolism and fashion along with connecting their struggles to our folx back homes who’s impacted by corporate greed. We created block prints for our clothes to represent ourselves in the fight for justice.

🦭 Message from YMEP Coordinator Matt 🦭 Shoutout to all the young men in YMEP for completing the program and demonstrating dedication to KGA, developing their leadership, and empowering their communities. I’m so grateful to our YMEP members for allowing me the privilege of facilitating for and educating you all. I appreciate all the trust, dedication, vulnerability, and effort each one of you have given me and each other over this year in our program. As a complete stranger, I was welcomed with open arms.. You all were warm, whimsical, and kind, defying so many stereotypes and misconceptions placed on us as Southeast Asian men. Through shared snacks and meals, stories, and so many laughs, I got to learn how thoughtful and multifaceted each of you were. From cross country athletes to artists, musicians, and future engineers, I’m always in awe of your passion, depth, and growth. Week by week, I had the opportunity to see all of you develop into leaders, team players, and community advocates that will go on to do great things. Congratulations to all of our YMEPers and I’m so excited to see what each of you accomplish in the future!! Have a great summer 🫡

💌 Message from YWEP Coordinator Jenny 💌
OH MY GOODNESS! YWEP 2025–26 has officially come to an end!
I am so incredibly proud of these members and can’t wait to see them graduate into the next tier of our programs, YOLB. During our final day together, we had a heartfelt closing where we reminded them that they will always have a place in this program and that this is only the beginning of their journey with KGA.
Throughout the year, they explored important topics such as SEA History, Organizing 101, and the House of Patriarchy; powerful lessons that encouraged critical thinking, self-reflection, and growth. Together, we built a space of sisterhood where members could support and lean on one another through challenges and successes alike.
Not only that, but three YWEP members proudly led chants during the Khmer New Year Parade in Long Beach, making sure their voices were heard loud and clear. We received so many compliments on their leadership and confidence!
From the beginning of the year to the very end, I have witnessed tremendous growth in each of them. They have become more confident, more vocal, and more empowered than when they first joined KGA. I know they are going to become powerful leaders in the future, and I am so excited to continue watching them grow and rise.

Yesterday, four of our Khmer Justice Program (KJP) members presented to a group of educators at the 2026 National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference! Our KJP members were able to showcase the amazing work that has been accomplished through the Youth Power Participatory Budgeting Long Beach process and further explained how the city’s participatory budgeting is youth led, empowering, and engages young people to be involved in a democratic process! Additionally, the folks who attended this workshop had the opportunity to participate in a “mock” PB session to experience the process. We are so proud of our members for their presentation give them a round of applause everyone!! 👏🏽👏🏽
