WHAT'S A LAND SWAP?

Come hear the details about this very recent “Wetlands Land Swap” presented by Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan, Heather Altman, and Chad Oberly, all representing the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority. This "land swap" is a very creative solution for promoting and protecting the wetlands located at the entrance to Naples and Belmont Shore and will greatly impact our community.

FoBS’ recent Spring Mix & Mingle at George’s Greek Cafe was a huge success! We were treated to our own private party on the upper balcony where we enjoyed their food, wine and beer. Owner Nicky added a few surprises like adding platefuls of Greek baklava dessert and having four drawings for $25 off the winner’s next visit. Many thanks to Nicky and staff’s warm hospitality. A great time was had by all!

Our April 3rd meeting was fabulous! More than 50 people were engrossed in our "Step back in time" presentation by Maureen Neeley, M.L.I.S and enthusiastic to Tom Barnes, of B & B Antique Hardware's unveiling of the first Belmont Shore historic plaque. Then Saturday, April 5th, led by Theresa, four board members, seven FoBS volunteers, and one dedicated spouse, performed a dual beach clean-up and another beautification project by planting a hardy ice plant into 6 palm tree planters along the basketball court sidewalk of 54th Place. Everyone who participated had a feeling of accomplishment! Go check it out!

Have you ever wondered what Long Beach does to assist the homeless needing health care, finding housing, and gaining employment? A few weeks ago, seventeen members of the Friends of Belmont Shore toured the Long Beach Multi-Service Center, a comprehensive facility that offers assistance to those who are experiencing homelessness and seeking to improve their situations. Our thanks to Georgette and Diego, MSC for guiding us through. All of us were impressed!
