Not retired. Not bored. Just trying to make a difference.

The Lone Star Rotary e-Club is built for busy people who still believe in service, friendship, leadership, and showing up for something bigger than themselves.

Join from anywhere. Serve everywhere.

One small sugar cube. One very long line. And every kid in that gymnasium understood exactly what it meant.

Our parents had watched neighbors lose children to polio — had seen the iron lungs, the leg braces, the empty desks. So when that nurse held out that little white cube, you opened your mouth without being asked twice. No argument, no hesitation. The sweetness on your tongue was the taste of something your generation would never have to fear again. Science and sacrifice had bought you that moment, and the adults in the room knew the price.

We come from a generation that understood what it meant to be protected — because we remembered what it meant not to be.

THIS THURSDAY: A STORY THAT STARTED AT AGE FIVE

Every once in a while, we get the chance to hear from someone who reminds us what service above self really looks like.

This Thursday, April 2, the Lone Star Rotary e-Club welcomes Aarna Baranwal, a high school senior with a servant’s heart that’s been in motion since she was five years old.

Yes… five.

Aarna serves as Chair of the Junior Advisory Board for Joshua’s Heart Foundation, where she leads eight teams, coordinates weekly initiatives, and helps shine a light on one of the most pressing issues of our time, food insecurity.

Joining her will be Aditya Dhote, Vice Chair of Operations, who will bring additional perspective and energy to the conversation.

Together, they’ll share:

* The powerful story behind Joshua’s Heart Foundation
* The real impact of youth-led service
* What it looks like to fight hunger, with purpose and heart

This isn’t just a presentation. It’s a reminder that leadership doesn’t wait for a title, a paycheck, or a certain age.

Sometimes, it starts with a kid showing up to help.

As members of the Lone Star Rotary e-Club, we are proud to be part of a global organization that has remained steadfast in the fight to eradicate polio.

Since 1985, Rotary International has partnered with governments, healthcare professionals, and organizations worldwide through the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to reduce polio cases by more than 99.9%. What once affected hundreds of thousands of children each year is now confined to just a few remaining areas of the world.

This progress is the result of decades of commitment, collaboration, and science-based public health efforts. While the final steps toward eradication are always the most challenging, the progress made thus far is a testament to what can be accomplished when communities unite around a common purpose.

We encourage you to watch this recent segment from CBS Sunday Morning highlighting the history and impact of polio vaccines. It’s an informative and timely reminder of both how far we’ve come and why finishing the job matters.

Together, we remain committed to a polio-free world.

What a night for the Lone Star Rotary e-Club!

Last night at the District 5910 Foundation Dinner, our little e-club with a big heart walked away with multiple recognitions—and let me tell you, we had an absolute blast doing it.

We celebrated the incredible impact of the Rotary Foundation, honored the people who make Rotary’s mission a reality, and, yes… we may have flexed our gaudy championship rings more than once. (If you saw the photos, you know.)

Excellent work, team. Great fun. Great cause.
Service Above Self—and occasionally, just a little bit of celebration.
