The Supreme Court just dealt the biggest blow to voting rights in a generation by eviscerating Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais. States can now defend gerrymandered districts by claiming "partisan" rather than racial intent. Black and brown voters' power has been deliberately diluted. And the politicians who drew these maps know exactly what they're doing.

But here's what they're counting on you not to realize: The fight didn't end.

As conversations about civil rights, immigration, citizenship, and democracy continue to shape our country, it's worth taking a closer look at a chapter of history that happened right here in our own community.

We are pleased to have local author John McReynolds join us as he shares the story behind his book, Vanished: Lompoc's Japanese, Of One Hundred Families Only Two Returned.
The book explores what happened to nearly 100 Japanese American families who were forced to leave the Lompoc Valley during World War II—and why only two families eventually came back. Through personal stories and local history, we are offered a chance to learn about a little-known part of Lompoc's past and reflect on why it still matters today.
