Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

As an organization committed to advancing equity for all, AAUW recognizes Juneteenth as both a celebration of Black liberation and a call to continue the fight for justice, equality, and inclusion.

Let us honor the strength and resilience of Black communities by continuing to advocate for educational, economic, and social equity. Together, we can build a future where freedom is fully realized for every person, regardless of race or gender.

Let’s keep learning, growing, and standing together for equity.

We are throwing it back to the wonderful Harvesting the Future event at Flying Goat Cellars on Oct. 27 that raised funds for female high school seniors pursuing STEM college education and careers. Thank you to everyone who supported this harvesting of STEM futures for local young women.🍇🧬

Unfortunately, the Dia De Los Mu***os program that was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 at St. Mary Episcopal Church has been canceled. We hope you will consider joining us at the Lompoc Unified School District celebration.

The Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD) will hold its annual Día de los Mu***os celebration, 2-7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the El Camino Campus, 320 North J St.

We believe in the power of this measure to repair our local schools, and provide our kids the places of education and enrichment they deserve.
