But in light of this, we wanted to take some time to highlight the amazing ways that we have seen God work through this ministry!

Amos Zayzay (one of our college students and the former head of the college program), through hard work and dedication, gained an opportunity to earn American citizenship. He worked extremely hard and finally was able to move to America. Currently, he has joined the US Army and is nearing the end of basic training. He is set to graduate at the end of May. Additionally, he became a sponsor and joined the Standing Side by Side board

Christmas was provided by so many generous donors for years. For children who previously dreaded the holiday season, it was truly a blessing to have something to look forward to! We especially want to thank for rallying behind this cause and not only serving as a packing station for years, but also contributing so many of the gifts that these kids received.

Ruthy, a girl who suffered form epileptic seizures that left her isolated and, at times, incoherent, was provided with years of crucial medicine that allowed her to return to a more stable cognitive state, help cook the daily meals at the home, and even earn a certificate from a local trade school. It was miraculous to watch her transition from hardly functioning to a cook, a student, and, most importantly, a mom.

The last picture above was taken before her medicine. That was her spot for most of the day where she would sit, alone.

Children had access to healthcare and procedures that otherwise would have been out of their reach. Above, Obediah shows off his new eye. Since birth, he had lived with a deformed eye, but the sponsorship program was able to provide him with surgery to fix his eye, which has restored within him a sense of dignity and pride!

A bathroom facility was constructed to provide for the home, complete with a girls’ side and a boys’ side, each having areas with toilets and areas for bathing. It also has electricity so they can safely access the bathroom at night.

For years, we have employed mothers and fathers who have been able to provide for their families with their salaries. Some even began housing children under our program to care for them as their own. Additionally, most of the staff was trauma-informed through an intensive seminar, which spreads awareness and facilitates healing both in their lives and those around them.

The sponsorship program holds high the value of family. Together we helped seven of our resettled/college students get married:

Momo and Davidline Morris - both from the home
Robertson and Philimena Sando - both from the home
Amos Zayzay
Peter Mulbah
And just last week…Timothy Joe!

The sponsorship program provided education to so many children who otherwise would have not had access to school (both children at the home and children from the community). Due to the money paid by the sponsorship program, the school had flexibility to provide scholarships to those in need in the community, many of whom were living in the streets. In total, we were able to produce 39 high school graduates!

The gospel has truly taken root in the lives of the children and staff. We witnessed Christlike spirits where selfishness and greed once abounded. We witnessed children commit to Christ in a way that truly represents authentic transformation. We witnessed their ignited faith, solidified and deepened through this ministry.

We also leave behind an active church plant, Rivercrest Presbyterian Church of Liberia, by one of our own, Timothy Joe (and assistant pastor Joe Zoyou). They not only are preaching the gospel but are actively meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the church members and the surrounding community. Lord willing, this church will continue to grow for years to come!

This church is still being actively supported by Tim Worrell with The Liberia Project. If you would like to support his ministry and this church, just reach out to us and we’ll put you in touch!
