On August 1st, 2025, Scouting will be 118 years old. This is because the first experimental Scout camp was held in August 1907. World Scout Scarf Day, which is celebrated annually on August 1st, commemorates this event.

What began over a century ago in the UK has grown into a global movement of more than 57 million Scouts across almost every country in the world. Scouting may have its roots in Britain, but it belongs to the world.

๐ŸŒŽToday, itโ€™s shaped by the cultures, communities, and young people who live it every day โ€“ from Nairobi to Tokyo, Prague to Sรฃo Paulo.

As a cultural export, Scouting isnโ€™t just something Britain shared โ€“ itโ€™s something the world made its own. And together, weโ€™re still helping young people gain skills for life, serve their communities, and build a better future. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿšจ New Required Training: Safeguarding Youth ๐Ÿšจ

Announced at the Scouting America National Annual Meeting in Orlando, the new Safeguarding Youth training is now live and mandatory for all registered adult volunteers. It is also a joining requirement for new adult members.

๐Ÿ“š Course Details:
๐Ÿ•’ Duration: ~90 minutes
๐ŸŒ Available in English and Spanish
๐Ÿ’ป Access it through my.scouting.org
โœ… Requirements: Complete all lessons + score 80% or higher on the final test

๐Ÿ” Annual Refresher:
After completing the full course once, a 15-minute refresher and retest is required each year to stay current.

โš ๏ธ Transition from Previous YPT:
โœ”๏ธ If youโ€™ve already completed Youth Protection Training (YPT), your certification remains valid.
โณ If you're currently taking YPT, you have less than one week to finish it. After that, it will no longer be available, and the new Safeguarding Youth training will be required.

UPDATE from Glen Pounder - If you took the prior YPT training, expiration is "One year from when the new training launched - at the latest. However - there is new material in the SYT which could genuinely save the life of a youth - inside or outside of Scouting."

๐Ÿ”’ Why This Matters:
Youth protection is at the heart of everything we do. This updated training reinforces a culture of active supervision, situational awareness, and safety, ensuring weโ€™re all equipped to help keep our Scouts safe.
