I’m grateful to have this group of dedicated, hardworking women in my life. All of us are deeply committed to our community and putting in the effort needed to see positive change. We had a great time at the “Conversations Along the Canal” event put on by the League of Women Voters and Stand Up Lockport today. Thank you to the LWV for all they do to help citizens exercise their right to vote. This event was part of the LWV’s “statewide day of civic action honoring the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The goal being to inspire communities to come together to protect and strengthen our democracy. The NY State canal system shaped the early struggle for voting rights by acting as a geographic and cultural conduit for the suffrage movement. The most powerful tool we have is our right to vote. Being an informed voter means engaging in conversation with family, friends and community about the importance of it. Inspiring someone to register, volunteer or cast their ballot will keep voting rights strong. Let's celebrate our shared history by investing in our shared future.”
