AWARE - Association for Wild Animal Rehabilitation and Education Inc.

AWARE - Association for Wild Animal Rehabilitation and Education Inc. AWARE is a group of volunteers that care for orphaned, injured and distressed wildlife, and educate the public about wildlife and the environment.

AWARE was founded in 1996 by Jacalyn Perry under the name Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation Ctr. As a part of our goal, we offer live educational programs to the general public using live disabled, but healthy birds. We depend on donations to help pay for veterinary treatments, food, medications, caging, educational materials, and to maintain the non-releasable animals. We are strictly a volun

teer organization, and when we run out of funds from donations, we pay out of our own pockets. Please help us to help them.

How to help licensed wildlife rehabilitators:

Wildlife rehabilitation is a labor love & compassion. Many licensed wildlife rehabilitators are not paid & lack funding from the state or federal government.

Many work full time jobs on top of rehabbing wildlife day & night, while taking calls from the public, caring for their families, & their pets. Baby season is tremendously draining emotionally, physically, & financially for these very special individuals.

They rely heavily on donations & to help with the costs of formulas, medications, medical supplies, vet bills, cleaning supplies, etc.

Please be kind to them & if you can not donate, ask if there are supplies they may need. You can offer to volunteer or help with transport. And if those aren't options, follow them on social media, like & share their posts so others can see what an amazing group of people rehabilitators are!

With Spring knocking at our doors, along comes”Baby Season”. A time that every Rehabber is preparing for (as best we can).

Our first babies for 2026 have arrived! These littles were found tucked in their nest in an engine compartment of a vehicle. Moms definitely are getting creative on where to build their nests(not always in the best places). With the quick actions of the staff, they found their way to us.

If you should happen to find a baby animal, you should try to reunite with its family first. Remember Mom is always the best caretaker. If that is unsuccessful, or the animal is injured, you can place in a warm, dry and dark place until you can connect with a Rehabber. Do not give food or water.

Babies or injured wildlife can be delicate and may require medical attention. Connecting with a Rehabber can be your first step in making a difference in that animal’s chance for survival.
