This posting is from Jim B**a and I have been asked when I might post something about the Smart Millage for Bus Transportation on the August Millage vote. This is my opinion and NOT that of this group. I am posting the explanation from the SMART website (Wayne County Transit Evaluation, not something I have made up and my review of what they are saying we may receive for bus service here in Livonia.

The plan does not provide for complete bus service for livonia on day after the millage is approved. Its is a phased plan Newburgh, 7 Mile Crosstown and Haggerty don't occur until 2029. Plymouth Road would begin in 2027.

There is no discussion about service for individuals with disabilities--no special way for them to call and receive service nor discussion that the busses will have the ability to load people with mobility issues.

There is mention Approximately $1.2M would support capital costs for new Flex service and additional funding for local transportation providers (such as Nankin Transit Commission and
Liv&Go). How much Livonia would receive is a portion of that as we don't know how many "transportation Providers" are included in this estimate.

Personally based on what I have read about the planned service implementation I cannot support this millage. I do not believe we in Livonia will receive value for our tax dollar. A yes vote does not provide in my opinion what the supporters of the Smart Millage claim will happen. I do not see an advantage to us. We will still need to support LIV&GO in Livonia plus pay for the SMART $. I do not see how my neighbors with mobility issues will be able to get around without using LIV&GO to go to a bus stop and then hoping they can get a bus that they can get on and off to the next stop or their destination. Unless the bus stops where they want to go they will need to find another bus or transportation to get to their final destination.

In my opinion we really need a better transportation system--not continued funding for a bad one. When people would need to find there way miles to a bus stop and where the times of operation are not listed I think what is being offered is a non-starter. I hope my friends understand my reasons for my no opinion and respect it. I just do not believe this is the correct solution to the problem. I also hope that the City of Livonia increases the days and hours for LIV&GO as it currently ends at 6PM and that does not allow for people to attend meetings or events within the city in the evenings or the weekends.

Here is a link to the Wayne County Transit Evaluation. I could not add the PDF here.

At the June 1, 2026 City Council meeting, during the public comments portion, lifelong resident Steve King, announced that he and his band will no longer be welcomed to perform at the SPREE or "Music from the Heart" series held in front of Livonia City Hall.
