Our 1st annual Summer Leadership Camp was a success. Our Bay Area Ambassadors partnered with our Boys Impact Team to bring a Co-Ed experience for a full week. Siblings were able to join in on the fun and we opened it up to the public as a fundraiser and the community showed up.

Four generations. One family. One girl changing what seemed impossible.

For generations, the women in this family in Paraguay grew up in poverty without the opportunity to continue their education.

Now, the fourth generation is writing a different story.

As a Girls Soccer Worldwide Ambassador, she is becoming the first in her family to continue her education and is working toward graduation—with a vision for a future that generations before her never had access to.

In this film, you’ll hear briefly from all four generations.

Their stories show us something powerful: **generational poverty isn’t created in one generation, and it isn’t changed by one opportunity alone.**

It changes when barriers are removed.
When education becomes possible.
When a girl begins to see a future beyond the circumstances she inherited.

Girls don’t lack potential. They lack access.

At Girls Soccer Worldwide, we create pathways to access for girls to discover their worth, strengthen their communities, and break cycles of generational poverty, using soccer as the bridge.

Opportunity is not the same as access.

At Girls Soccer Worldwide, we’ve learned something that has changed how we serve girls and their families. Poverty is rarely caused by one obstacle. It is the weight of many barriers stacked on top of one another.

A girl may want to stay in school. But if her family cannot afford food…then education just becomes another impossible choice.... as one example.

When a girl has a safe place to sleep, privacy to care for herself, food on the table, and a family who no longer has to choose between survival and education, something remarkable happens.

She begins to believe her future is worth investing in.

So, we don’t begin by asking ‘what we want to do’ or ‘what do we want to build.’

We begin by asking what is standing in her way?

Recently, we met a young woman whose future looked much like the generations before her.

No one in her family had continued school beyond seventh grade.

Her mother never had the opportunity to attend school at all.

Yet we saw something different. We saw potential.

As we got to know her family, we discovered that helping her stay in school would require more than a scholarship.

It would require removing the barriers that stood between her and the future she deserved.

The bathroom and home featured in this project aren’t the destination.

They’re part of the pathway.

When a girl has access to safety, education, health, nourishment and encouragement, self-worth she begins to see something that once seemed impossible: A future she can help write herself.

The future she saw before her was the same future that had been passed from one generation to the next.

As we got to know her, we saw extraordinary potential hidden beneath extraordinary barriers.

We invited her to apply to become a Girls Soccer Worldwide Ambassador and that invitation has already began to shift her perspective. It is changing who she believed herself to be.

Today, she is becoming the first person in her family to continue her education beyond seventh grade. She no longer sees her future as something that was pre-written for her. She sees it as something she can help write herself.
