Yesterday, Livermore Pride’s Board Secretary, Emily Wilson, had the honor of attending Shared Wisdom // Collective Joy, hosted by Horizons Foundation in San Francisco.

They also attended representing their role with the — and left feeling deeply grounded in something we don’t always make enough space for: connection.

Bringing together LGBTQ+ nonprofit leaders from across the Bay Area felt not just meaningful, but necessary.

At a time when programs labeled as DEI — and the communities they serve — are being challenged, defunded, and scrutinized, spaces like this remind us of what’s possible when we come together instead of pulling apart.

There was honesty in the conversations.
There was strategy in the room.
And there was something just as important — joy.

Because joy, in moments like this, is not separate from the work. It is the work.

It’s what sustains movements.
It’s what strengthens relationships.
It’s what reminds us why we keep going.

Organizations like continue to play a critical role in supporting LGBTQ+ nonprofits — not just through funding, but by creating spaces for shared learning, trust-building, and collective action.

We need more of that.
More collaboration.
More courage to show up for one another.
More people willing to extend a hand and say: you’re not in this alone.

There is power in community. Always has been.

In Memoriam, David Hurst (1970-2025), Livermore Pride Co-Founder and Board Member

David was a key member of the Pride team from day one and a founding member of the steering committee that helped establish Livermore Pride as a nonprofit organization. His dedication, wisdom, and steady, calming presence were instrumental in shaping this organization and the community we continue to build.

As a lifelong public health professional in both the private sector and as a member of the Alameda County Public Health Board, David brought invaluable knowledge of our county’s health systems and a deep understanding of how health, equity, and community intersect. His guidance strengthened our work and expanded our vision.

David had big dreams for the future of Livermore Pride, including his hope that one day we would host essential health services from a dedicated physical Pride Center. While we are not quite there yet, we remain committed to building connections to increase equity in public health, doing our very best to make him proud.

David’s life was taken from us far too soon. His absence is deeply felt, but his impact remains, in this organization, in this community, and in every step we take toward the future he believed in.

We will always remember seeing David and his friends on “Rainbow Knoll” at the Thursday night farmers market, a quiet, constant presence that made our community feel more like home.

Memorial service plans are not yet public. We will be sure to share more about how to honor his memory when plans have been announced.
