Plarn by Rebecca

Plarn by Rebecca I crochet what you throw away! "Plarn" is plastic yarn made from regular grocery bags. I started crocheting sleeping mats for the homeless out of plarn in 2012.

In 2014, I learned how to make bags and purses from plarn. Since I crochet because I enjoy it, and since I pay nothing for my crochet materials, the payment for bags that I sell is usually passed onto a worthy cause or non-profit organization. You can see some of them in the "liked by this page" section, or you can click on a photo of a particular purse to see which group the proceeds went to. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll like my page to support my work and see more.

Crocheting with plarn in the park on a beautiful spring evening. I was working on a small rug, although the weather got a little too windy for me. Who can tell what goes back in the background at the end?

Flashback to the sign that hung from the front of my booth at the Hillcrest Farmers Market last summer. My booth will never be as professional as most booths at markets like this. My table isn't big, and I don't have a tent. My signs and price tags are all homemade, and it shows. But that's okay. I have always been just one person with one crochet hook, scissors, and a bunch of plastic bags.

A plarn bag that sold from the Hillcrest Farmers Market last summer (but that I never posted here because I didn't get a very good picture): colored stripes against Kroger brown. Proceeds from the market were donated to Out of the Woods Animal Rescue.

My first try at crocheting a plarn rug in a half-circle style. The first attempt at anything new is never the best, and I've had to unravel and start over in a few spots, but I like the colors of this project, and I'm hopeful for the finished product.

Oops, I crocheted too much. I'd love to sell these rugs for a low price/donation to a good cause. Each about 25x16" hand-crocheted from shrinkwrap film and plastic bags, so they're much thicker than regular plarn. A third rug isn't pictured but resembles the one in the back. Please PM me if interested.
