We filed a lawsuit challenging the administration’s abrupt delay of critical website accessibility features designed to ensure blind people and people with other disabilities can access essential government and healthcare services online.

“For over fifty years, our laws—specifically Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act— have promised blind Americans and other Americans with disabilities equal access to all areas of life, including digital spaces and services. Yet today this promise remains unfulfilled, and now our government is compounding the outrage by asking us to wait even longer,” said President Riccobono. “We will not wait. We will fight to ensure that the promise of America’s laws, and indeed its founding documents, finally becomes reality for blind and disabled Americans.”

Ensure that all Blind Americans are able to Access the Digital World

The National Federation of the Blind, the transformative membership and advocacy organization of blind Americans, urges the Department of Justice to rescind an interim final rule that delays the implementation of Americans with Disabilities Act Title II website regulations.

Since an advance notice of proposed rulemaking on Title II website regulations was published in 2010, blind Americans have been anticipating clear digital accessibility rules. After fourteen years, that final rule was published in 2024. However, in April of 2026 when the rule was supposed to take effect, the Department of Justice instead delayed the implementation of the rule by one year through the publication of an interim final rule.

Help us let the Department of Justice know how disappointed we are with this delay!

How to Take Action

Submit your own response to the interim final rule before June 22, 2026.

Congratulations to our 2026 scholarship finalists! Every year, we award more than $300,000 in cash and prizes to blind scholars in recognition of their achievements and professional aspirations.

“Our scholarship program continues to exemplify how the blind people’s movement builds and strengthens a community of leaders,” said President Riccobono.

“The finalists represent a diversity of academic and professional pursuits, from groundbreaking work in STEM careers to innovative approaches in media, education, and emerging fields. We are proud to honor these blind scholars, each of whom is raising expectations and expanding possibilities. The accomplishments of these outstanding students are proof that the blind can achieve excellence and live the lives we want. We will celebrate these outstanding scholars together at our national convention, where their accomplishments will encourage the next generation of blind leaders to dream bigger and reach higher.”
