After 14 days, the power is back on for 99% of Northwest Indiana. The damage is widespread, and recovery is massive. But today, let's take a moment to give thanks.

Thanks that we survived the storm. Take a moment to regulate your nervous system after all the stress that it's endured in these two weeks.

💜 For those who have asked how you can donate—thank you.

More than a week after the devastating August 11 derecho, many Gary residents are still without power. As our community continues to recover, SanPhil Legacy Foundation is going into neighborhoods to check on seniors and vulnerable residents who may need additional support.

Through our Gary Storm Community Wellness Response, donations will help provide health and safety supplies, support senior wellness checks, assist with immediate cleanup needs—including spoiled food removal—and address other wellness needs we encounter while serving residents.

To our friends and supporters in Northwest Indiana, Texas and beyond—if you would like to help us continue this work, you can donate directly through the link below.

Every contribution helps us continue showing up for Gary.

There is unity in community.

🚨 UPDATE: We’re going back out Friday!
We’ll be meeting at 9:30 AM to continue checking on our seniors and vulnerable residents in Gary.

❤️GARY, WE NEED HANDS ON DECK.

We’re going into the community to check on our seniors and vulnerable residents, and we need volunteers.

Healthcare professionals and students—nursing, medical, CNA, MA, EMS, public health and other health-related programs—we could especially use your help with community wellness checks.

Not in healthcare? We need you too. Help is needed cleaning out refrigerators, removing spoiled food and trash, delivering supplies, and simply checking on our neighbors.

We’re also seeking donations of blood pressure cuffs, glucometers/testing supplies, gloves, alcohol wipes, hand sanitizer and other basic health and wellness supplies.

If you have time, resources, or simply a pair of willing hands, Gary needs you.

Please share.
There is unity in community.

Day 6 without power for much of Gary, and yet what continues to shine is community. đź’ś

Small businesses and nonprofits are providing free meals. Churches are donating food, clothing, and hygiene supplies. Councilmembers are cooking and bringing music to emergency shelters. City officials are serving meals and washing dishes. Gary's Code Enforcement team is on-site supporting shelter operations. Volunteers are checking on our elders. Neighbors are clearing trees, sharing food and water, and simply looking out for one another.

Mayor Eddie Melton and city leaders have been working tirelessly to bring resources into Gary and help our community recover, while federal disaster assistance through FEMA brings additional support to the region.

And in the middle of all of it, something beautiful is happening: neighbors are talking again. Kids are outside playing. People are checking on one another.

This is community wellness.

It isn't only what happens inside a clinic or during a wellness event. It's having food when you need it. A safe place to go. Someone checking on you. Resources reaching the people who need them. And a community that refuses to let its people face hardship alone.

Gary continues to show what it means to show up for one another.

There is unity in community. đź’ś

Gary, we’re still showing up for one another. ❤️

If you’re still without power, the YWCA shelter is here for you. There’s food. There are power outlets. And most importantly, there’s community.

Come charge your devices, grab something to eat, cool off, and be around people who care.

There is unity in community. 🤝🏾❤️

Gary, let’s start the day with wellness. 💜🌿

Join us at Gleason Park for a morning centered on movement, mindfulness, and community.

No pressure. No complicated routine. Just an opportunity to move your body, clear your mind, connect with others, and intentionally start your day.

Because taking care of our communities starts with taking care of ourselves.

Pause. Breathe. Reset.™

Come as you are. Bring a friend. Let’s get our minds and bodies moving together! 💜

August is a fresh opportunity to slow down, reset, and take care of yourself.

At SanPhil Legacy, we believe that healthier communities begin with healthier people. Every small act of self-care strengthens your mind, supports your body, and creates a ripple effect in your family, workplace, and community.

This month, commit to one simple self-care habit each day. Small steps can lead to lasting change.

đź’ś Healthy Minds. Healthy Bodies. Stronger Communities.
