North Star’s emergency shelter allows us to provide immediate safety and care to survivors who have encountered law enforcement and urgently need a way out of the situation they’re in. Emergency care is designed immediately to meet the needs of women in the most vulnerable circumstances and help them relocate to a long-term option.

This week we celebrated the tenacity, joy and resilience of one of our guests who, after weeks of waiting and working with us on paperwork and resources, boarded a flight to be reunited with family members. We met her at a point of profound terror, when her situation was overwhelming. Yesterday, she stepped onto the plane with a smile and head held high, and we feel incredibly honored by the opportunity to walk this journey with her.

Our programs are 💯 community-funded. To each person who makes it possible for survivors to have access to the care, safety and resources they need: thank you. You are changing lives.

North Star’s generous supporters and friends have given over $5,300 to the Quiet Place to Land matching grant campaign. Will you join them?

Whether for a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or on a lunchbreak with some vitamin D, being outdoors in calm, green spaces soothes our souls. We know from research and personal experience that breathing fresh air and standing between trees not only connects us to God's creation but also lowers stress hormones like cortisol.

Our survivors at The Harbor are blessed with beautiful green spaces thanks many generous groups that have weeded, planted and beautified to create pathways for moments of peace, calm and reflection. 🍃🌿🌱

What does a quiet place to land look like?

At The Harbor, it is:

🔹 Soundproofing in our emergency shelter that provides greater privacy and a stronger sense of safety for residents and guests.
🔹 A study room equipped with comfortable furniture where residents can read, learn and pursue education.
🔹 A meeting area that gives residents a quiet place to process the necessary steps toward rebuilding their lives.

A generous donor has provided a $10,000 matching grant to help make these projects possible.

Now we have the opportunity to raise another $10,000 — and every gift brings us closer to the match.
