The ILAE - International League Against Epilepsy Nursing Section recognizes that nurses’ education and preparation varies considerably across geographical regions, healthcare systems, and nursing roles.

The ILAE Nursing Section, in collaboration with the ILAE Education Council, has developed a competency-based epilepsy curriculum that provides a framework for education and training of nurses worldwide. It outlines the essential knowledge required to provide foundational care and the advanced knowledge associated with neuroscience nursing practice.

International Bureau for Epilepsy is currently accepting applications for its 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐩𝐬𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞.

This program is for people with lived experience of epilepsy who would like to develop their leadership skills as an advocate and/or work with IBE chapters. You must have access to a computer and the internet, including Zoom, email, and PowerPoint. You must be able to communicate in the English language.

Applicants from low- and middle-income countries and young individuals (under 40) with lived experience of epilepsy will be prioritized. Up to 30 individuals will be selected for the cohort.

Application deadline: Sunday, 16th August 2026
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed between 24th August and 4th September.

In 2025, we crossed an important milestone:
ten years dedicated to addressing the global treatment gap. ROW Foundation was launched in 2015, making its first grant in June of that year.

Ten years later, ROW has worked with 95 partners in 41 countries. The scope of our partnerships has expanded to include grants of anti-seizure medication, community- and school-based epilepsy education, health worker training in epilepsy care, engagement of community health workers to fight stigma, and establishment of diagnostic clinics.

Although there's much work to be done, we're proud to play a role in progress being made. We remain committed to fighting epilepsy treatment and knowledge gaps. Enjoy this 10-year lookback on what ROW and its partners have accomplished together!

People living with are at increased risk for accidental drowning. One British study found a 15 to 19 times greater risk. Special care must be taken at home (bathtubs and swimming pools) and beyond (pools, lakes, rivers, wells and other water collection sources).

Children are especially vulnerable to drowning and require close supervision in or near standing water. Maintaining seizure control with appropriate medication is a key means of drowning prevention.

An average delay of 5.4 years between a patient's first neurological symptom and an accurate specialist diagnosis can cause long-term health problems. Shortening this timeline requires supporting frontline health workers and improving how patients are sent to specialists.

Access to neuro-imaging tools is also a hurdle. In many rural, low- and middle-income regions, patients must travel an average of over 200 kilometers just to get a CT, MRI, or . These long distances often delay care, which can turn treatable conditions into long-term disabilities.

While only 3% of people worldwide can easily see a brain specialist, 72% have access to a mobile phone network. Online medical care can quickly help bring fair healthcare to more people.

Throughout most of the world, 4 out of 5 people with recieve no treatment at all, despite the existence of essential medicines costing less than $5 USD per year.

Epilepsy is a treatable condition–up to 70% of people with epilepsy can achieve seizure control with the correct anti-seizure medication(s). But until medication is available and affordable globally, tens of millions are stuck in the treatment gap.
