Miss Moxie Pageant

Moxie is a brand of carbonated beverage that is among the first mass-produced soft drinks in the United States. It was created around 1876 by Augustin Thompson as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food" and was produced in Lowell, Massachusetts. The sweet soda is similar to root beer, with a bitter aftertaste. Moxie was designated the official soft drink of Maine on May 10, 2005. It continues

to be regionally popular today, particularly in New England states. Since 1982, The Moxie Festival has been held in July in Maine, home of the world legendary Moxie Store! A festival in honor of a beverage that has a cult following in New England. This event showcases fireworks, Moxie Day Parade, Street Fair, Moxie Recipe Contest, Concert in the Park, Moxie Car Show and much more. For years a Miss Moxie Pageant was part of the Moxie Festival but that stopped in the early 1990’s. In 2019 with new directors the Moxie Pageant again became part of the Moxie Festival. The pageant is typically held a few weekends before that years Moxie Festivities which allows the new titleholders to participate in the various events, parade, interviews, car show, dance, climbing wall, etc. Many volunteer their time to the Lisbon community during the Moxie Festival and throughout the year.
