Texas regulators have approved $33 billion in new high-voltage transmission lines, a project whose total lifetime cost could approach $100 billion for Texas ratepayers.

In new research, Life:Powered's Brent Bennett examines independent modeling that raises serious questions about whether these lines are necessary.

The research finds that the proposed 765-kV transmission plan would do little to reduce electricity prices, would primarily enable additional wind and solar development, and could be replaced by natural gas generation near growing demand centers in West Texas at no additional cost.

The authors also explore concerns about how the project was approved, the demand forecasts used to justify it, the financial incentives driving transmission expansion, and the impact on Texas landowners facing potential eminent domain proceedings.

With billions of dollars at stake and Texas ratepayers ultimately paying the bill, this debate deserves far more public attention.

Citizens of Erath and Surrounding Counties affected by the Dinosaur - Longshore 765kV Transmission Line Project,

I would like to thank you, the volunteers assisting others and our local elected officials for their support of the opposition of the Oncor proposed 765kV Transmission Lines that are proposed to traverse Erath and surrounding counties. We have built an impactful team to educate our fellow neighbors in navigating the challenges of Texas Utilities Code, State of Administrative Hearings, and the Public Utility Commission approval process. All the while learning legal factors of the decision-making process so that we can advocate specifically for our environmental integrity, parks and recreational areas, historical and aesthetic values (cemeteries) that affect our homesites, businesses, property values and community values. We all have many questions about the need for the line, the cost of the project, routing efficiency (use of existing corridors) and the impact on citizens and their residences that we have to rely on experts in their field to provide guidance on. Recently, the Erath Somervell Sub-Regional Planning Commission hosted Oncor so that they could gather information in regards to this project and how it will affect our area. From that meeting we were able to confirm that many along the proposed routes were not or inadequately notified of this project. Oncor mailed over 4,200 notices but stated many were returned. Many residents of the area have claimed that the notice was never received, or they were not aware of its significance. We have also learned of many who were dedicated to meeting the challenges of this process, tried tirelessly to be involved and were removed from the case for one reason or another. From these findings our volunteers are now on a mission to collect data in regard to the people affected by the Dinosaur - Longshore 765kV Transmission Line Project. We are committed to finding a way for all voices to be heard, with a mission to help correct the errors and advocate for changes to this process. We need you to provide that data for us by using this electronic form. We are a group of volunteers trying to unite all those who opposed this line and stand united in this fight.

This form is to be used to help verify the contact information recorded by Oncor in Docket 59315, Attachment No 12 Landowner Notice for each individual and entity AND for anyone who would like to provide the following... (Yes, you can complete this as a volunteer helping your neighbor.)

- verify your information is correct or incorrect, share if you received notice, share if you were able to become and remain a party to the case, share if you allow us to report the information error, and share your opinion.

This data will show that you have verified your address and all the details related to you.

You are important to us and we can't do this without you.

Please complete this form by Monday, June 8, 2026.

Most people picture transmission lines as small structures somewhere off in the distance.

But many Texans have never seen the true scale of a proposed 765-kV transmission tower.

Depending on the design, these structures can reach approximately 160–190 feet in height — comparable to or taller than the Statue of Liberty from ground level to torch.

When infrastructure reaches this scale, the impact extends far beyond the tower itself.

Before a single line is energized, construction can require:
• Large excavation sites
• Foundation drilling
• Heavy equipment access
• Cleared construction corridors
• New access roads
• Ongoing vegetation management

This is industrial-scale infrastructure crossing rural land, ranches, farmland, and private property.

The conversation should not begin after the towers are standing.

It should begin before permanent decisions are made.

Texans are constantly being told these transmission lines are necessary to move power to places like the Permian Basin.

But ask a simple question:

Where is this power actually coming from?

Most people never receive a clear answer.

If thousands of miles of new transmission infrastructure are being proposed across Texas land, the public deserves transparency regarding:
• Power generation sources
• Long-term infrastructure planning
• Who benefits from the transmission
• Who carries the long-term impact
• Who ultimately pays for it

Instead, many Texans are only hearing that massive transmission expansion is “necessary” — without clear explanations surrounding the long-term consequences tied to these projects.

That is why awareness and public participation matter now.
