The stereotype is old. The facts are not.
For decades, we've heard the narrative that Black fathers are absent. The truth is that millions of Black fathers are actively involved in their children's lives every day. Research from the CDC found that Black fathers living with their children are highly engaged in daily caregiving, helping with homework, sharing meals, and participating in their children's activities.
While challenges certainly exist, so do countless Black fathers who show up every day. They're in the stands at ball games, in the audience at dance recitals, at parent conferences, doctor appointments, church services, and around dinner tables.
This Father's Day, let's celebrate the reality. Black fatherhood is defined by presence, sacrifice, love, leadership, and legacy.
To all the Black fathers showing up, pouring in, and building a better future for their children, we see you. Keep going.
