Exploring the Imperial Estate: An Insider’s View of the Forbidden City
About the Talk
As a center for cultural expression, academic inquiry, and political influence, the Forbidden City was the nexus of China’s Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties. Administered as the historical place and cultural institution known as the Palace Museum, the site is a unique architectural complex as well as a receptacle of Chinese arts dating from the prehistoric to the modern age. This talk introduces its history and significance while presenting an insider’s perspective on its vast collection and organizational structure.
