☀️ Faith in Action: When Simple Solutions Change Lives 💛

As we continue exploring the Sermon on the Mount, we’ve been thinking about what it can look like to put faith into action in our everyday lives.

UM News recently shared a story about Solar Oven Partners, a United Methodist ministry that has spent more than 25 years providing simple, sun-powered ovens to communities around the world. ☀️🍲

The ministry works to support better nutrition and health while also helping reduce the need for firewood in places including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone, and the Navajo Nation.

It’s a wonderful example of how faith can inspire practical ways of caring for our neighbors and communities. 💛

📣 Justice in Action Listening Sessions

The Social Justice & Outreach Committee wants to let you know that Justice in Action is beginning its listening sessions here in Lancaster County—and First UMC will be hosting four of these sessions!

Over the coming weeks, you may receive a phone call from one of our four hosts inviting you to participate in a listening session. 📞

These sessions are an opportunity to listen, share, and be part of an important conversation in our community.

📍 First United Methodist Church will be hosting four sessions.

Please keep an eye out for a call, and if you have questions or would like more information, reach out to Pastor Patrick or Jan Boller. They can help point you in the right direction.

🥔💛 A Little Late, But Too Good Not to Share! 💛🥔

We may be a week late sharing these photos, but we couldn’t let these wonderful memories from our Potato Bar go unseen!

It was such a fun time of good food, fellowship, and plenty of loaded potatoes! Thank you to everyone who came, helped, and made the afternoon so much fun.

We’re so grateful for the wonderful community we have at First Church. ❤️

🥫 Little Food Pantry Update 💛

Thank you for your continued support of our Little Food Pantry and Blessing Box ministry. Because of your generosity, we are able to help neighbors in our community who are facing food insecurity.

Our current needs are:

✨Chicken/Tuna Helper
✨ Mac and Cheese

While these items are greatly appreciated, our greatest need right now is monetary donations. Financial gifts allow our volunteers to purchase needed items in bulk and respond quickly to changing needs in the pantry.

Donations can be placed on the Social Justice & Outreach table in the southwest corner of the sanctuary.

Every contribution—whether food or financial—helps make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Thank you for your continued support and generosity! 💛

As we continue to look toward the future of First Church, we are still seeking donations to help send a task force to a workshop hosted by Partners for Sacred Places.

This workshop will provide valuable tools and resources to help us strengthen our ministry and better serve our church and our community.

Calling all gardeners! If your garden is producing more than you can use, consider sharing your extra fresh produce with our Blessing Box.

We’re especially looking for:

🌽 Other fresh vegetables & fruits

Your garden surplus could help provide fresh food for a neighbor in our community!

🍩🎓 What a Sweet Way to Welcome Back Wesleyan! 💛

Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s Donut Greeting such a success!

We loved getting to welcome Nebraska Wesleyan University students back to campus with some donuts, smiles, and a warm First Church hello. 🍩😊

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who showed up early, greeted students, served donuts, and helped make the morning special. And thank you to everyone who donated to help make this outreach possible!

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to welcome our Wesleyan neighbors back to Lincoln and to start the new school year with a little sweetness. 🎓🍩💛

(or until we run out of donuts!)

We’ll have plenty of donuts, friendly faces, and a warm First Church welcome as students begin a new school year. 🎓💛

We’re still looking for volunteers to help greet students and serve donuts throughout the morning. Whether you can help for an hour, two hours, or the whole morning, we’d love to have you!
