Happy 1st day on the job to Luis Garcia!

Luis is a reentry program intern at the Center for People in Lincoln. The NWU criminology major will help people find resources, jobs, housing and support to be successful after release from incarceration.

“My goal is to gain real life experience in my field. This will let me see how prepared I am and where I need improvement if I want to keep doing this work,” he said.

“One reason I knocked on this organization’s door was to give back to a group that was with me [in the years before I transferred to NWU.] They not only gave me a scholarship; they gave me guidance and requested accountability on my behalf. This is a form of paying it back.”

A piece of paper. A few colored pencils. An unstoppable human spirit.

Behind this incredible artwork is a "hobby card"—a simple request form filled out by a participant in our programs. Inside a correctional facility, that card is a choice. It’s a conscious decision to choose growth, to tap into creative freedom, and to let the human spirit thrive against all odds.

At the Community Justice Center, we believe that providing the space and tools for this kind of resilience is how true healing happens.

It’s the final stretch of Day! Your donation ensures that our participants have the resources, programming, and support to discover their full potential and rebuild their lives.

We have about $1800 left to meet our fundraising goal. Click the link to invest in your community today! 🌱🌿

Today we are looking for 4 community champions to make a life-changing investment. As part of Give to Lincoln Day, the Community Justice Center has a specific, high-impact goal: We need 4 generous donors to step forward with a $1,000 sponsorship.

What does a $1,000 championship gift achieve?

It completely funds an entire 8-hour Restorative Justice class session.

This isn't just a donation; it is accountability, healing, and a proven pathway to success in our community. One class session has the power to shift the trajectory of multiple lives, replacing cycles of harm with understanding and restoration.

Plus, this Give to Lincoln Day, your gift goes even further by unlocking a proportional share of the Lincoln Community Foundation's $650,000 match fund!

Will you be one of our four champions? Sponsor a session and change a life here: https://givetolincoln.com/nonprofits/community-justice-center
