During the 2026 legislative session, Nebraska lawmakers made changes to state law related to student suspensions. As a result, some school districts may have updated their student discipline and suspension policies for the new school year.

Every district's policy may look a little different, so it's important to familiarize yourself with your school's handbook and understand what it says about student expectations, discipline, and family rights and responsibilities.

Swipe through to learn more, and be sure to check your district's handbook before the school year begins.

⏰ Last chance to share your feedback!

The Nebraska State Board of Education will soon consider the proposed social studies academic standards. While they are not voting on the standards until the September 4th meeting, the August 7th meeting provides an opportunity for your input before the vote. If you haven't already, now is the time to review the proposal and submit your comments. Comments must be submitted at least 24 hours before the meeting [9 am tomorrow morning].

Thoughtful public participation helps strengthen the process. As you share your feedback, we encourage you to keep your comments respectful, specific, and solution-oriented. Constructive feedback is one of the best ways to help decision-makers understand your perspective.
