Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day by honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous communities, both past and present.

Nebraska is home to a rich Indigenous history whose stories and contributions are an essential part of our state's identity.

Our public schools play an important role in ensuring students learn about the diverse peoples, perspectives, and experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of the communities that shape our state and nation.

Today, we celebrate Indigenous voices, histories, and the importance of continuing to learn from one another.

‼️ Federal Voucher Program Update: The Department of the Treasury has released the Rules and Regulations for the Federal Private School Voucher Program [Education Freedom Tax Credit]. We will post more information regarding the program after we have had time to review them.

The Stand For Schools team is at the Get Connected Conference in Kearney speaking with folks from afterschool programs across Nebraska. We are so excited to hear about all the wonderful programs supporting students beyond the final bell and the amazing people who make them possible!

moment: When you realize your favorite teacher became your friend for life. 🩷

"My public school journey began in 1st grade. I went to Centura Public School. I absolutely loved all of my teachers throughout elementary, but one stood out specifically.

My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Sylvia Perry, is the reason I'm a teacher today in a public school. She and I just absolutely clicked. She was the kind of teacher that you visited multiple times a year, and wished you could have her again.

When Sylvia retired, we lost touch for awhile, but we ran into each other when I was in college (to be a teacher) and we now meet several times a year to have dinner and catch up. She'll be 79 in August, and I'm 34. This will be my 12th year teaching in public education, and it's all thanks to the one teacher that always had my back, and became a lifelong friend."
