A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our June North Lincoln County CERT meeting on Fire Safety and Utility Controls.
One of the realities of emergency response is that firefighters cannot be everywhere at once. Damaged roads, weather conditions, limited water supplies, and multiple incidents can all slow response times during a major emergency.
That's why preparedness matters.
CERT Team Member Raul Grimes led the evening's training, covering practical skills community members can use to help keep small problems from becoming bigger ones. Topics included proper fire extinguisher use, recognizing when a fire is too large to fight safely, preventing fire spread by removing fuel sources, performing overhaul to ensure a fire is completely extinguished, and understanding when and how utilities may need to be shut off during an emergency.
We were also fortunate to be joined by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue Captain Rick DeJager, EMT/Paramedic with B Shift. Captain DeJager shared current information on lithium-ion battery fires and helped ensure the material presented reflected today's fire service practices and recommendations.
A special thank you to Raul for leading the training and to Captain DeJager for taking time away from a busy schedule to share his expertise with our community.
Prepared communities are built before they are needed.
📍 Join us Wednesday, July 1st at 6:00 PM for our next North Lincoln County CERT meeting as we explore systems-based wayfinding... a practical approach to navigation, decision-making, and finding your way when familiar landmarks, technology, or normal routines are no longer available.
As always, our meetings are free and open to the public. We hope to see you there.
