Announcing the 2025 MSA Youth Snowmobiler of the Year: Joey Walsh šŸ†

We are thrilled to announce that Joey Walsh is our 2025 MSA Youth Snowmobiler of the Year! Joey has been an invaluable asset to the Route 11 Streakers since 2016, consistently going above and beyond.

From helping clear trails as a young volunteer to becoming a skilled groomer, Joe's commitment has been unwavering. He's been a vital part of every club meeting, fundraiser, and the MSA snowmobile show! He attends director meetings and even built six new bridges this season!

Joe's passion extends beyond his local club. He shares his knowledge and experience with other young snowmobilers, teaching them about grooming techniques and the importance of trail maintenance. He truly embodies the spirit of the snowmobiling community.

Congratulations, Joey! Your dedication, hard work, and positive attitude make you a deserving recipient of this award. We are incredibly proud to have you as part of the MSA family!

***ATTENTION SNOWMOBILERS***

Happy New Year snowmobilers! Are you ready to ride? We are all anxiously waiting to get out with friends & family to our favorite trail, but a lot of riders have not yet registered.

We would like to take just a minute of your time and explain the importance of registering your sled or sleds early and the direct positive impact that it has on your local club and the trails that you ride on.

The annual snowmobile registration revenue is crucial to clubs and trails across our State. 72-81% of your registration money (depending on registration type) goes directly to the trail or capital equipment grant funds. The registration money goes to the Municipal, Club, Capital Equipment & Disaster Relief Grant Programs. Every snowmobile club in Maine participates or has participated in one if not all these programs. Those registration dollars go to building bridges, maintaining equipment, brushing trails and helping cover grooming costs like fuel.

There have already been countless hours working with landowners for permission, building new and fixing old bridges, clearing blowdowns, cutting brush, putting up signs & getting equipment ready to groom. This work and effort (60% of volunteer hours in 2023) are done before a single snowflake ever hits the ground.

Please don’t wait for snow or school vacation week.

Registering your sled early will ensure that the trail you ride on will be one that you have come to expect.

Share a picture of your sled(s) if you already have your registration complete!

It is with extreme sadness that we share the news of the passing of Larry Lafland. Larry's legacy in the snowmobile community is nothing short of remarkable. For over 35 years, his dedication and passion for snowmobiling shone through in his numerous roles within the Maine Snowmobile Association and the Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club.

His commitment to enhancing snowmobiling in Maine, both locally and statewide, speaks volumes about his leadership and service to our community. Larry's impact on all of us will be felt for years to come, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Our hearts go out to his beloved wife, Eileen, and to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Please take a moment to share a message or memory with the Lafland Family in the tribute book at https://www.brookingssmith.com/memorials/larry-lafland/5522445/index.php

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 16. The family invites everyone to gather for conversation and refreshments immediately following the service at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.

In honor of Larry, those who wish to remember him in a special way may make donations to the Maine Snowmobile Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 80, Augusta, ME 04332, or to a snowmobile club of your choice.

Rest in peace, Larry. You will always be in our hearts.
