Bring any gardening tools you have, some will be provided… along with gloves & trash bags

Tracey Miller, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Kentucky Department of Landscape Architecture, shared her research and examples of “Municipal Eco-Friendly Culvert Projects: Connecticut Amohibian Crossings” during the Bluegrass Watershed Summit April 11, 2026. Her research helped identify important habitat and migration patterns of rare turtles and salamanders in a Connecticut community, so that the most frequent intersection of these creatures and roadways and culverts could be identified and prioritized for creating safer movement.

What a terrific day we had today at the Second Annual Bluegrass Watershed Summit. With principal host WaterwaysLex and sponsors LFUCG, BCTC Environmental Science Technology Program, Fayette County Conservation District, Hickman Creek Conservancy and Friends of Wolf Run, we had a capacity crowd for informative, action-oriented presentations, an interactive game and information from 13 organizations. Rapid response to backyard conservation grants show they are meeting a need! Watch for future announcements. And to those who receive the grants, have fun and share your results!

We are blown away by the response to our Backyard Conservation Program, which is completely full in less than one day of signups!

WaterwaysLex sponsored a free creek walk along Cane Run in Coldstream Park on March 28. Led by WaterwaysLex President John Pike, PE, the walk highlighted healthy stream enhancements. "This stream has wide riparian buffers with native plants thanks to it being in a conservation easement owned and maintained by the LFUCG Greenspace Trust," said Pike. "Water from this stream flows north through surface drainage and underground karst caverns to eventually become Georgetown’s drinking water source." This was one of our Lexington Water Week events.
