That’s a wrap!
Our 2025 season came to an end yesterday. It was supposed to be an early start but the first game was delayed an hour due to rain the previous night. Unfortunately we were already in route. Ended up being a 12 hour day at the fields. These girls battled hard, going 1-1 in pool play and earning the #1 seed in the Silver bracket. After a 3-game break we won our first bracket game, coming from behind to win in the last inning thanks to a walk-off rocket by Lilly Sipper with the bases loaded.
On to the Championship game! We battled a good team, played great defense but the bats went cold and lost in the 6th inning earning runner-up in the Silver bracket.
With the last tournament completed, that marks the end of the season for these girls and this team. Half the team has to move up to 10U. It was an emotional ending to our season, several fought back tears while others - yours included, could not. I’ve said several times this year, I don’t have one daughter in this team, I have a dozen. I love these girls like my own and I hope I made as big of an impact on them as they have on me. I want nothing but success and confidence, not just in softball but life, for each of them going forward.
When we decided to have to have this team, about this time last year, I wasn’t sure how the selected girls would perform and respond to my coaching style. I had hopes but we only had a handful that had played travel ball before. All we wanted was growth, confidence, and continued love of the game. Despite the record, I think we succeeded beyond expectations. They quickly bonded and became a family and I could not be more proud, not only of the players, but the parents, siblings, and grandparents all coming together for one common goal.
Our post game celebration was cut short due to lightning, but I’d like to thank each young lady, coach (especially Salem and Riley), parent, sibling, and grandparent for all of the support, faith, and believing in these girls and team. They may not remember the times or rings 5 years from now, but they will remember the support you have all shown. I’m proud and honored to be a part of this special group. From the signing day last December until today, I’m honored to be a small part of their story. I will miss each one of them dearly but cannot wait to watch each of them succeed in life! Once a Flying Pig, always a Flying Pig!Let’s go Pigs!
