One year ago today, we kicked off the MM4M 4X4X48 Challenge!

In Lexington, a big group came together, while countless others around the world joined us to run, walk, and even crawl 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours...all to raise awareness for Malakai and other children affected by gun violence.

The smiles on the kids’ faces were priceless, and we are so grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, or supported this cause.

A special update: Malakai is thriving and has been accepted into the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind! While he may be far away, he’s always in our hearts. This July, MM4M is excited to help him and his brother Kameron attend the Envision Blind Sports Summer Camp in Pennsylvania!

We’re continuing our mission to support children affected by gun violence in and around Lexington. If you know a child who could use our help, please reach out...we’d love to connect.

Happy 11th Birthday, Malakai!!!

You are such an inspiration and truly one of our favorite kids. Another year older, but still one of the best kids you’ll ever meet with the kindest heart.

We are so proud of you for being accepted into one of the best schools for the blind in the country down in Florida.

You and your family are greatly missed here in Lexington, but we are incredibly excited to see where life takes you and all the amazing things you’ll do. Keep being you, Malakai. We hope you always know just how many lives you continue to touch.
Happy Birthday! 💙

As much as we wish we could change the past; to restore Malakai’s sight, ease the daily struggles his family now faces, and erase the challenges that lie ahead...we know we must move forward.

So many lives were forever changed by this senseless act of violence. While we are grateful for the closure and for those who never gave up in seeking justice, our hearts remain heavy.

We share Malakai’s story not only to honor his strength and resilience, but in hopes that it reaches someone before they make a devastating choice. Guns are not the answer. Violence leaves lasting scars — on victims, families, and entire communities.

Let this be a call for change. Let his story be a reason to choose a different path.

Michael Lemond, the man who blinded a 5-year-old Malakai Roberts when he shot into a Lexington home in 2020, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday, according to LEX 18 in court.

The photos say it all! Malakai and Kameron had an amazing time at the Envision Blind Sports Camp last week! MM4M was honored to help get them there and see those smiles on their faces.

The Envision Blind Sports Camp is a week-long summer camp in Erie, PA for youth ages 7–18 who are blind or visually impaired. Campers take part in over 25 adapted sports, build confidence, and connect with peers in a supportive, inclusive environment.

The camp also welcomes siblings of visually impaired youth, so we were overjoyed that Kameron could attend too. Many forget the trauma Kameron endured during the tragedy, and it meant the world to see him laughing, playing, and simply being a kid again.

Thank you Lexington Police Department for this post on our mission!!!

In December 2020, when Malakai Roberts was shot and blinded by a bullet from a drive-by shooting, Lt. Corey Doane knew he wanted to help. Lt. Doane started Many Miles 4 Malakai to raise money to help cover any future medical and educational expenses for Malakai.

In 2023, he participated in the IRONMAN Chattanooga Triathlon to raise awareness, and this year, he set out to host an event in Lexington.

From May 8-10, 2025, Many Miles 4 Malakai hosted a 4x4x48 Challenge. During the challenge, participants committed to running or walking 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, completing a total of 48 miles. The event raised over $10,000 and showed support for victims of gun violence.

We want to thank him for his dedication to Set the Standard of community policing!
