✨️ Story Time ✨️

For the last eight months, I have been hard at work writting a book about all it took to build what the horses of Coal Country never had and all it took to bring it down.

It is a story so wild, it has taken over four hundred pages to tell it all. As things gear up for publishing, it has certainly struck a few nerves 🤭

So! It's finally time to start talking about some things, as while I was there I couldn't and once I had left I was too broken to do so.

Enjoy this snapshot of life at Middle Ground behind the sense.

Last night, I officially finished the book and it is now ready for one final edit before publishing🩷

When I left the mountains last fall, I set out to heal through finally telling the story of all that could never be shared. In doing so, creating a path forward to continue helping the horses and the hills our organization fought so hard for.

It took 134,724 words to do so.

I can't wait to share the finished work with everyone and finally let the world finally know what really happened at the end of Middle Ground and Elsewhere. For it was a valiant battle, ultimately lost.

Thank you to all who have helped along the way, and those who didn't. It made for a great book 🌻

Just a Goose and his Goslings 🩷🪿🐤🐤🐤

More often than not when foals needed critical, life saving care and needed to be removed from the wild, their mothers could not go with them.

Most required extensive hospitalization and having a wild Momma in the hospital stall would have made treatment impossible. By the time they were medically cleared to come home, their Mommas milk supply would be long dried up.

There is only so much we as humans can teach an orphan foal and thats were Uncle Goose stepped in. Big or small, sweet or feisty, broken or whole he loved them all and took them under his wing, giving them not only companionship but guidance.

After his retirement following a career ending injury in 2021, Goose needed a new calling and it's safe to say he found it in raising wildling babies 🩷

This old man's journey to find health was nothing short of remarkable to witness. He has been heavy on my mind this week as I tackle a few chapters about him that I have been putting off.

The One-Eyed John Mule was the true animal embodiment of resilience and it was a privilege to have helped him know health again, and know that he had a kind end when it mattered most 🩷

Nothing but quality minerals, strategic population reduction and a few years of kindness 🌻
