The Music of His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot
We are the music company of the 10th Regiment of Foot, a recreated British infantry regiment that was garrisoned in Boston at the start of the American War for Independence.
As part of the larger reenactment unit, we portray the musicians within a regimental structure. In the 18th century British military, drummers and fifers would be dispersed to the companies of their regiment. We follow this tradition at reenactments, so we aim to have a drum and a fife attached to each company for battle scenarios. Even though much of our impression revolves around relaying commands and signals, we are always happy to perform 18th century standards while on parade or on the march. The music we play can be traced back to the 18th century and, in many cases, is still played today by British Military bands. Such tunes include The Lincolnshire Poacher, The British Grenadiers, Soldiers’ Joy, Duke of York’s March, Lilliburlero, and Rule Britannia.
Our members are well-versed in the fife and drum world outside reenacting as well. You will see our members performing with the Middlesex County 4-H Fifes and Drums, William Diamond Junior Fife and Drum Corps, The Fifes and Drums of the Lincoln Minutemen, and the End Zone Militia. We take great pride in bringing our musical expertise to the reenacting hobby -- to a person, we are all musicians who love history!
