Our kids have been wanting to go back to Give Kids the World ever since we left it, having spent a magical week there during Micah’s wish trip back in December of 2023. It is such an amazing place for Wish Kids and their families, where we all feel seen, loved, and cared for during the most difficult time of our lives. While there, Micah helped create his “Mighty Micah” star, which now forever hangs in their special castle with hundreds of thousands of other stars, all with the name of a wish child…many of them no longer here ⭐️
As GKTW alumni, we have the gift to go back and spend a total of 2 days every year, for the rest of our lives, to visit the place that filled Micah and our family with so much adventure, wonder and love. When we visited there in 2023, we did not know that Micah would be leaving us only four short months later. The memories we spent together on his wish trip are memories we will forever cherish and be grateful for.
Last week, we were blessed with the opportunity to revisit Florida with my mom, (Grandma Sue) and make more memories while revisiting precious ones. We got to visit places that we have not been before while also taking a day to visit GKTW. The kids requested to attend on the day of the Christmas Party. While we love seeing the amazing Santa and Mrs Claus (who are there EVERY WEEK of the year!) we were thrilled to meet Kaylee the Penguin whom we did not get to meet two years ago. Our son Joey also immediately found Micah’s star at our star viewing…being back in the room with Micah’s star, and all those stars was touching in a way that words cannot describe.
Brian and I were brought to tears several times that day. The grief and the joy continue to coexist in a seamless way. It is amazing to me that our kids continue to love this place and want to continue visiting, as well as hoping to volunteer there one day. They shared memories of their first trip there and seemed to find strength and affirmation there.
Project Penguin also made a small appearance. We brought with us some jelly beans (Micah’s favorite, he used to pass them out at the hospital), a penguin key chain and sticker to pass out to Wish kids and their siblings as we saw them. Santa, Mrs Claus, and Kaylee Penguin got one too. 💛
It is both needed and hard to make new memories without Micah physically with us…but at the same time, doing things like this draw us even closer to him. We couldn’t help but feel his presence with us. Micah was so full of adventure and joy…while it makes us cry to be filled with these things without him here, we know that he is still here with us in our hearts and in spirit.
Below are photos of our recent trip, along with some from our first trip.
Miss you everyday Bubba. In Heaven….💛
