This is the third and final version of the MD-05 congressional candidate report card, updated on June 22, 2026. Here we have graded the ten most prominent candidates on their alignment with DSA's Workers Deserve More program.

Since we released version 2 in May, some candidates have clarified or elaborated on parts of their platforms. Others, in rightfully calling out Adrian Boafo for receiving significant support from the Israel lobby, have taken a more concrete stance on Palestine.

For the full breakdown of our criteria, notes on each candidate, and more information about DSA's program, please follow this link: https://somddsa.org/md-05-candidate-report-card/

You can also email all 20+ candidates, urging them to adopt better positions, by completing the form at this link: bit.ly/fighting5

Under his presidency, Donald Trump has used ICE to terrorize our neighbors, prolonged the genocide in Gaza, suppressed democracy, consolidated minoritarian control, and escalated US imperialism in Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela – all to benefit his clique of billionaires at the expense of the working class.

Meanwhile the Democratic party's leadership has demonstrated they have the same class interests as Trump does. Their most prominent figures consistently fail to stand up to our exploiters in big tech and for-profit healthcare, and outright ignore imperialism in Iran and Latin America and genocide in Palestine. Their obvious favorite is bought and paid for by AIPAC and data center companies - both of whom clearly think Southern Maryland itself has a price tag.

It is clear that only a mass movement of the working class can resist fascism, and only a disciplined socialist bloc in Congress can make real progress on the things that we need. If we can't have that, we can demand a representative who isn't for sale.

Please read this message from Hagerstown Rapid Response Network- the deadline for comment is July 1st. Thanks!

Friends,

We have a narrow window to make our voices heard.

Because Maryland successfully challenged DHS in court for bypassing environmental review requirements, DHS is now conducting an Environmental Assessment and accepting public comments on the proposed ICE detention warehouse in Washington County. Those comments become part of the official administrative record and can help document the project's environmental, infrastructure, and public health impacts.

The deadline is July 1.

This facility would generate enormous wastewater demands, strain local infrastructure, impact nearby waterways, and create risks that extend far beyond the warehouse site itself. DHS needs to hear from as many people as possible before the comment period closes.

As we explained in a Substack blog post this is morning, this is not simply a Washington County story. Residents of Maryland, Washington, The District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware could be affected and should submit a public comment now.

We've made the process as easy as possible. It takes two minutes or less to submit a comment, and our system allows you to customize your message so DHS receives your concerns directly.

Submit your public comment now: https://NoKingsNoCamps.com

Every comment matters. Every submission becomes part of the official record. Please take a moment today to participate, then forward this email to friends and family who care about protecting our communities.

In solidarity,

Hagerstown Rapid Response

Violence should never become so familiar that we stop noticing it. Whether it’s physical, verbal, emotional, political, or online, the normalization of harm erodes our humanity one act at a time. We can disagree without dehumanizing, challenge without attacking, and lead without intimidation.

A healthier society begins when we refuse to treat violence as ordinary. I pledge to support legislation that will protect people from violence in all forms. Let’s do good, together.
