📣 📷 SOUTHERN MARYLAND, HELP US TELL THE STORY!

This November, SoMD Photography is highlighting 10 nonprofit organizations from across Southern Maryland through photography and storytelling.

The goal is simple:

"Help more people discover the organizations doing meaningful work to support, serve, strengthen, and bring together our communities"

Each participating nonprofit will share photos with SoMD Photography that show its people, programs, volunteers, events, and impact.

But, we also want to show these organizations through the eyes of the people who have interacted with them.

If you have volunteered with one of the featured nonprofits, attended an event, participated in a program, supported a fundraiser, worked alongside their team, or captured a meaningful moment connected to their work, we want to see your photos.

📷 How to Participate

✔ Look through your camera roll for a photo connected to one of the featured organizations.

✔ Tell us a little about the moment and which nonprofit it was connected to.

✔ Submit your photo through SoMD Photography in the comment section, email [email protected], or submit directly through the participating organization when they share their own photo call.

Submitted photos will become part of the November gallery display at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop, helping us tell the story of each organization so more people in our community can learn who they are, understand the work they do, and discover ways to connect with or support them.

Wondering why we haven’t posted our November call for participants? We haven’t forgotten!

Our team has something special planned for our November exhibit at the SMC Arts Council - Gallery & Gift Shop, and we’re keeping it a secret just a little bit longer.

For now, every frame holds a question mark. On October 15, we’ll be inviting the community to contribute to the exhibit.

We're all set up ready for the ghost stories to begin. Please join us today at SMC Arts Council - Gallery & Gift Shop from 1 to 4:30 as Spooky Solomons will be presenting 16 ghost stories from locations around Southern Maryland surrounded by over 100 photographs from those locations. This event is free, and family friendly ❤️

We're looking forward to meeting those are able to make it tomorrow ❤️

Last week, the rain added to the eerie vibes of the event. But tomorrow looks dry.

Join SOMD Photography, St. Mary's County Arts Council, and Spooky Solomons in Leonardtown for this event. We will explore 16 spooky places here in Southern Maryland. Explore the photos taken by the community, hear the legends and history associated, and walk with me to the Old Jail Museum - Leonardtown, and Moll Dyer Rock.

The event will be from 1pm to 3 at the arts council. Come and go as you please. Listen to all or some of the presentation on the locations. Browse the amazing photos.

Then at around 3pm, we will take a walk and share some Leonardtown stories. Including the story of Maryland's most famous witch, Moll Dyer.

A huge shout out to Carlos Ortega Jr. Photography who captured some remarkable images last week in the rain. We have great talent here in Southern Maryland!

We'd like to thank Carlos Ortega Jr. Photography for sending in these photos that he graciously took for us during the Southern Maryland Haunted History event with Spooky Solomons while visiting the Old Jail Museum - Leonardtown and Moll Dyer Rock.

Having a photographer show up to help document an event is always a blessing for organizations. We spend so much time working during events that we hardly get a chance to take pictures!

That's why photographers like Carlos are so important. He just showed up, helped out, and didn't ask for anything in return. We really appreciate you Carlos, and wish you best along your journey ❤

👻 SOUTHERN MARYLAND’S HAUNTED HISTORY RETURNS FOR ONE MORE AFTERNOON!

16 haunted places. 16 ghost stories. More than 100 photographs on display from our community.

Join SOMD Photography and Spooky Solomons on October 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a FREE one of a kind experience exploring the ghost stories, legends, folklore, and haunted history of Southern Maryland through live storytelling and community photography.

👻 The afternoon begins at 1:00 p.m. inside the SMC Arts Council - Gallery & Gift Shop, where Adam Tremper of Spooky Solomons will bring the ghost stories behind familiar Southern Maryland locations to life, surrounded by over 100 photographs submitted by members of our community.

👻 Then at 3:30 p.m., the stories leave the gallery. Guests can follow Adam on a short walk to Moll Dyer Rock and the Old Jail Museum - Leonardtown, where he’ll share two additional ghost stories at the very places connected to them.

Grab a friend, bring your curiosity, and come experience the spooky side of Southern Maryland.

Enjoy listening to the Moll Dyer Rock presentation provided by Adam Tremper with Spooky Solomons during the Southern Maryland Haunted History walking tour yesterday. Even through the rain, he didn't skip a beat!

During our haunted history tour of the Old Jail Museum - Leonardtown with Spooky Solomons, we had a wonderful unexpected presentation by a gentleman working at the visitor center. We can't imagine that he was expecting almost 30 people to pack inside the Museum out of nowhere. One thing is for sure though, the gentleman giving the presentation handled it extremely well, was very courteous to our large group, and was very informative.

We can say with great confidence that gentleman is the perfect person to help tell the history of the jail. Thank you for welcoming us in and helping add to the haunted history tour! We appreciate you ❤️

We'd also like to thank Adam Tremper with Spooky Solomons for giving his time to share the history and spooky side of some of our favorite Southern Maryland locations, as well as St. Mary's County Arts Council for their hospitality and for allowing SOMD Photography to have a place to showcase the creative talent within Southern Maryland ❤️

Most importantly, we would like to thank all of the community members for contributing your images to help make this experience possible for all to enjoy ❤️
