At LHS Awards Day on May 5, 2026, your alumni association presented scholarships to seven outstanding seniors. Alumni president Ray Ortiz, served as master of ceremonies for the alumni portion of the program. Recipients of the scholarships were Freddy Stratton, Sydnee Sturm, Matthew Koury, Tiana Moore, Vanessa Craft, Avery Bealer, and Logan Seavey.

The LHS family has suffered a number of losses this week.

Travis Hicks, LHS Class of 1956 passed away earlier this week. Funeral arrangements are in the attached post.

Mr. Hicks was a good man and a loyal Cat. He hosted many class reunions, including one in 2016 when his class celebrated their 60th reunion. His 70th would have been this year.

Prayers for the Hicks family.

2025 Homecoming was a GREAT TIME! Lots of alumni came back and all the events seemed to go well.

I must say, however, as the parade guy I wonder every year what happened to the classes building floats. Lots of us have fond memories of building those floats and all that that entailed and implies. Big fun, lots of work for weeks. Maybe too much fun for this day and age.

That said, I was looking up some football history today and ran across this great photo from Homecoming in 1976. I may just have to build one of these myself one year---for old time's sake.

LHS honored the alumni with a buffet breakfast on Homecoming morning. The delicious meal was prepared and served by Tammy Lenahan Cecil's Culinary Arts class.

The luncheon was held at LHS in the new science, technology, electronics and mathematics building. George Smith and Richard Schwartz, the 2025 Hall of Fame honorees spoke to the crowd about their experiences in athletics at LHS and in college and about their lives as coaches at LHS. Also honored was the 2025 Alumnus of the Year, James Williams, a 1977 graduate and the present Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools.
