We are deeply saddened to hear about another recent loss of a wonderful member of our donation community.

We join our friends at the Gift of Life and our other community partners in remembrance of Scott Carson. A gentle giant with a strong passion for organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness.

A new member of our team, Scott was a strong supporter of our annual Pickleball tournament and silent auction. Additionally, he was excited about the opportunity to join us at a Transplant Games of America in the future.

Our thoughts go out to his family loved ones, and those who knew him.

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Scott Carson

We join Scott Carson’s family, friends, colleagues, and the Gift of Life community in grieving the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, mentor, leader, advocate, and friend.

After receiving the gift of life through a double lung transplant in 2022, Scott transformed gratitude into action. He became a driving force for Gift of Life, serving on the Board of Directors, chairing the Fundraising and PR Committee, and helping strengthen the relationships, visibility, and community support that sustain our mission.

Scott also gave deeply of himself as a Life Savers volunteer, sharing his story with students so they could understand the lifesaving power of organ, eye, and tissue donation. Through Transplant Mentors, he walked alongside others waiting for transplant, offering honesty, encouragement, and the steady reminder that became his personal motto: “Keep Pushin’.”

In 2025, Gift of Life honored Scott as Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his service, compassion, and leadership. True to who he was, Scott saw his work as a way to honor his donor, his donor’s family, and the village of people who supported him throughout his journey.

Scott believed that strong relationships drive sustainable impact. His leadership invited others to show up, open doors, tell the story, and turn gratitude into action. That legacy will continue in every student inspired to register as a donor, every transplant patient encouraged to keep going, and every life touched by the mission he championed.

We invite you to honor Scott’s legacy by registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor—and by sharing that decision with your family so your wishes are known.

In lieu of flowers, Scott’s family invites gifts to Gift of Life in his memory. A donation in Scott’s honor carries forward the work he loved: educating the next generation, supporting transplant patients and families, and bringing hope where it is needed most. Gifts In Memory of Scott Carson may be made at www.giftdonor.org or mailed to Gift of Life, Inc., 6405 Metcalf Ave, Suite 109, Overland Park, KS 66202.

As we prepare to head out this week for the 2026 Transplant Games of America in Denver, we wanted to take a moment to remember those teammates who have left us too soon.

This past Tuesday we lost a long time member of our team, and a giant on our basketball team through the years in Mike Strauss, who was set to join us this year.

We also remember Maegan Sanders and Kari Alejandre, whom we lost last year after long battles with illnesses.

We look forward to honoring their memories and celebrating their lives in Denver.
