"The slate of activities in town begins June 1 at the Lee Library, 100 Main Street, with the premiere of history exhibit Jacob's Pillow in Lee, Mass.,” followed by an opening reception on June 2 at 4 p.m. among related events throughout June. The project is the brainchild of resident Joshua Bloom after he researched the relationship between the town and dance venue Jacob’s Pillow, with a focus on local LGBTQ+ roots.

In its second year, Lee Pride 2026 is set for June 13 and includes an Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, Drag Story Hour, live music, a Lee Pride Dragstravaganza - 5 pm Family-Friendly Bingo | 8 pm After Dark Drag Party. A free Secret LGBTQ+ History of Lee Walking Tour is new this year, with the 90-minute program touching on stories that have long been hidden from official records."

In conjunction with the local celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, Justin Jackson’s Greenock Country Club lecture has been rescheduled from June 8 to June 22.

Peter’s story will be featured as part as the second annual Lee Pride in June 2026. His story appears in a new Scrapbook of Lee LGBTQ+ History that will be contributed to the Lee Library Historical Collection and told as part of a free “Secret LGBTQ+ History Of Lee” Walking Tour on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm that starts ands at the Lee Congregational Church, UCC Park. All are welcome!

🇺🇸 “My uncle, Peter Ceanga (1953 - 1985), a man I have nearly no memory of as he passed from AIDS when I was little. He’s the gorgeous man in the fierce leather shirt you see above. My Mom tells me everytime I say something inappropriate or make sick jokes (which is all the time) that I remind her of my uncle Peter.

To be able to share uncle Peter’s story means so much to my mom and to me. She tells me all the time that him and I would’ve been thick as thieves if he was still here.

We’ve come so far since the days he bravely came out as a gay man. In the early 1980’s, uncle Peter came home to the Berkshires from his Christopher Street apartment in NYC. He was battling AIDS and was treated horribly by the community. The local radio station made it public he was in the area with AIDS and my Grandparents would receive phone calls that their “f #$$*t son got what he deserved.”

My mom sad it was hard enough to know she was losing her brother, but to see her parents endure such vile comments from the community … she said it was brutal.

While uncle Peter was at the local hospital, his dining tray would be kicked into his hospital room and my family would have to bring it to him. Only one nurse would come into his room and treat him with the dignity that he deserved and rub lotion on his lesion covered legs.

We’ve come a long way in this country to show support for the LGBTQ+ community, but we have a long way to go.” 📖 by Keelin
