We've had some challenging honey bee rescues this Spring, but once in a while we are asked to save an open swarm that started in a nearby water meter box. These are the swarms all new beekeepers dream about, but rarely come across. Once we put the swarm into a nuc box, we found the queen and caged her. Then we left the nuc by the bush so we could also save any scout bees and foragers that returned before dark.
Another happy ending for some bees that after re-queening, feeding, and a couple of months of rehabilitation with mite checks will become a nice nuc to donate to a new Hives For Heroes Heroes "newbee" veteran wanting to learn and get started with beekeeping! 😊
