We’re so excited to see the new banners around the downtown square in Lebanon. This is a tribute to the men that fought in America’s fight for independence 250 years ago who ultimately settled and died in Boone County. There are 20 banners with their name and place of service. Spaced between them are America 250! Banners. The DAR thanks the City of Lebanon, Indiana for funding the banners from funds reserved for such things.

The 7 direct descendants of John Leap introduced themselves and their relation to the American Revolutionary War patriot at yesterday's wreath laying ceremony in his honor. Some traveled from out of state and some from right around the corner. What a wonderful tribute to their ancestor.

It's time for another ceremonial wreath laying to help celebrate America 250! This time we will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery (700 S & St. Rt. 267) If you have not yet attended one of these ceremonies, this is a great opportunity to reflect on what ordinary people in our country did to win the freedoms that we enjoy today. Please join us Wednesday, May 6th at 12:00 as we celebrate John Leap.

Our next Revolutionary War Patriot ceremonial wreath laying is this coming Tuesday, April 14th at 12:00. We will start at Hopewell Cemetery, which is at the intersection of Rt 47 and Elm Swamp Rd, where we will honor 2 patriots - Arthur Andrews and Jesse Robertson. We will then go north to Mechanicsburg Cemetery to honor John Roberts. There will be special instructions to get to Mechanicsburg Cemetery because it is only accessed via private property. We hope you can join us for both ceremonies. All three stones have been cleaned especially for this day.

UPDATE ON 3/11 WREATH LAYING CEREMONIES
Due to the high potential of bad weather tomorrow, we have made the decision to postpone the ceremonies until June 24th. The community safety is most important and two of the cemeteries are very close to a highway. On June 24th, following the ceremonies at the courthouse, we will follow the promotional vehicle to Beck Cemetery, then Bethel Hill Cemetery, then Gipson Cemetery to honor our patriots! Sorry for the inconvenience

The next Honoring Boone County Revolutionary War Patriots wreath laying will be Tuesday, March 11th starting at 12:00 PM. We have 3 patriots to honor in 3 different cemeteries. We will start at Bethel Hill Cemetery (W 650 N and Kent Rd, Thorntown) for the William Pauley wreath laying. We will then travel together to Gipson Cemetery (800 N & US52) for the William Gipson wreath laying. Then we will make a quick trip to Beck Cemetery (3151 N US 52) for the John Kersey wreath laying. Each wreath laying will feature Doug Weisheit in full Revolutionary War uniform and the DAR with words to honor our patriots buried in Boone County. Please come out and join us for the journey to all of the locations or join us at one along the way. This is a wonderful way to teach our children about history and sacrifice of self to serve the larger purpose. Check out all the Boom! County 250 events at https://discoverboonecounty.com/events/250-events/

It was a bit chilly, but we still had a nice crowd. We were pleased, as part of America 250! events, to honor 3 Boone County Patriots, George Grimes, John Ferguson, and Abraham Utter, buried in Cox Cemetery in Thorntown, with a wreath laying ceremony.

Thanks to Discover Boone County, Thorntown Heritage Museum, Extension Homemakers, and Doug Weishiet who dressed for the part today, for participating and coordinating the event. Thanks to Dull's Tree Farm for supplying beautiful patriotic wreaths.

We hope to see many more people at the next event on February 5th at Pleasant View Cemetery to honor 2 more patriots.
