It’s 11:45 p.m., and we’re just arriving back home after making another long road trip to deliver a superhero suitcase to a mighty little boy and his family.
Many times, I make the quiet trip to a hero’s home by myself because it really is such a tender experience. But the past few times I’ve planned to head out, these two boys have asked to come along and help choose items for the family. I wasn’t especially sure that having them tag along late at night at the end of a holiday weekend was the best idea… but we ended up taking this road trip together as a family, and it turned into the best night. 💙
Hearing the boys talk about the suitcases and why we deliver them filled my heart. Lane has asked a few times over the past few weeks if we could avoid songs and things that remind him of Myles because he’s been feeling sad about missing him. So hearing him ask to deliver a suitcase today because “it makes him proud of his brother” and because “that’s what we love to do” felt good.
A little reminder that even on the darkest days, there is still hope for sunshine again.
