We just learned of the passing of retired K9 Sam of the Comanche County Sheriff's Office Oklahoma. Sam was more than just a tool for law enforcement; he was a guardian of our community and a faithful partner to Detective Ekberg who never wavered in his duty. Whether on patrol or protecting his handler, Sam served with a level of loyalty and courage that few can match. We thank him for his service and offer our deepest condolences to his handler and the entire department. Rest easy, Sam.

As freezing temperatures continue and snow-packed roads see increased traffic, we expect road conditions to become slick in areas around traffic lights, stop signs, and bridges overnight.

If you have to travel in the morning, drivers should be aware of the following:

Be alert for black ice, which is difficult to see and commonly forms on bridges, overpasses, intersections, and areas that appear wet but are actually frozen.

Ensure your vehicle is equipped with warm clothing, blankets, food, water, and a charged phone in the event you become stranded.

Due to hazardous road conditions, response times for first responders may be delayed.

As roadway crews continue clearing streets, snow accumulation can occur along curbs, making it difficult to enter or exit private businesses, especially for low-profile vehicles.

If travel is not necessary, we strongly encourage residents to remain home until conditions improve.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

Please slow down, increase following distance, and help us keep everyone safe.

Approximately 2.5 years ago this "little" guy came to us in hopes in becoming something big. We decided to give him a shot and see what he could do. I was not surprised how fast he picked up HRD training and became the HRD K9 for Southwest Oklahoma Search and Rescue. From a rescue dog, to hero. Thank you GypsyCanine for sending us our boy.
