Can you imagine the difference raising $10,000 for congenital heart defects could make? I can. That money could fund research for a junior faculty member AND multiple fellows at Columbia University Medical Center. And all it takes is simply getting 100 people to donate $100 or more to Colin’s Kids this holiday season.

But there’s no way to do this without your support. On this Giving Tuesday, I encourage you to open your own hearts to those in need.

Your donation is critical to helping Colin’s Kids fund medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects (CHDs) and financially support the families of babies born with CHDs at a time when they need help the most.

Clinical trials, new technology, and the unwavering dedication of heart specialists are producing important advances every day. But further progress is needed that can only be made through the life-saving research that Colin’s Kids is committed to supporting.

You can make a donation in any one of the following ways:
1. Click the Donate Now button below
2. Visit our website at www.colinskids.org
3. Mail a check to: Colin’s Kids, PO Box 93, Hopewell, NJ 08525

My sincere thanks and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

With gratitude,
Andrew King

The Grey’s Anatomy mid-season premier featured a partial heart transplant – a procedure pioneered at Duke Health by an innovative team at Duke Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center! To date only two such procedures have been performed -- both at Duke Children’s Hospital. Baby Owen Monroe (pictured left) was the first person in the world to receive the procedure and little Kix Soderblom (pictured right) became the second.

Grey’s Anatomy reached out to Dr. Joseph Turek as a consultant on the program to help with the medical accuracy of the procedure. Efforts are now underway to bring this innovation to other medical centers and expand access to lifesaving procedures.

We are grateful for the Colin’s Kids Club at The Lawrenceville School!

On Sunday, November 13, Colin’s Kids Club hosted its first blanket making event in the Bunn Library. Students enjoyed cookies and music while creating making fleece blankets to donate to pediatric heart patients. Colin’s Kids is a nonprofit that provides funding to advance medical research related to congenital heart disease (CHD) as well as financial and other support services to families of children born with this birth defect. It was co-founded in 2010 by the families of Colin Molloy and Andrew King, boys born with CHD. Sadly, Colin passed away after only 47 days. Andrew, thankfully, is the happy, healthy little brother to Carolyn ’20, Connor ’22, and Chris ‘24, now dedicated to helping others with CHD. They have also donated thousands of blankets to patients at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center in New York City – home to the NICU where Colin and Andrew were born. Congrats to Dr. Andrew McCrary, Dr. Jordan Ezekian, and Dr. Sarah Goldstein at Duke Children's - recently awarded the Andrew King and Colin Molloy research grants respectively. Dr. McCrary's research is advancing the diagnostic utility of echocardiography in heart function assessment, Dr. Ezekian is analyzing genomic data of families with congenital heart disease and Dr. Goldstein in developing a novel risk prediction tool for women with congenital heart disease who are considering pregnancy. Colin's Kids is proud to support these research projects focusing on congenital heart defects.
