Thanks to more good friends volunteering in the toy shop today! Kip, Mike and Jim dove in to their respective tasks. Kip and Mike worked on the fender blocks. Jim cut the cabs down to size and traced out the hinges for the dump box. Thanks guys!

Re-sawing and planing day for all the box bottoms. Tony arrived first and helped round-over(RO) all the 2 1/4” x 4 1/2”...

Re-sawing and planing day for all the box bottoms. Tony arrived first and helped round-over(RO) all the 2 1/4” x 4 1/2” spacer blocks that go behind the cab and under front of the box. I finished re-sawing all the beams down to rough boards. Ron popped in and the three of us planed them down to 1/2” thick for the box bases. They’ll be stickered in place for a couple weeks to make sure they stay flat. Ron settled in to start RO the “T- bar” spacers while Tony finished drilling the left head light sockets.

Busy couple of days.
• Marked all the engine blocks for sanding and sawing to make the profiles
• Reduced the length of the large boards to make it easier to re-saw and plane the box bases.
• Started drilling out the headlight recesses in the fender blocks.

Fellow retiree John Gravino stopped by the toy shop today. First we planed flat and stickered all the chassis. Then we planed down the 2x4’s to 1 3/16” thick and cut to rough size. They will form the riser platform for the box base to clear the rear wheels. Three hours of work was all it took.

Finished the rough out cutting of all the fenders, dump box hinges, all but 25 cabs and cleared the shop of most of the left-over large cut-offs. Even surgically removed (no anesthesia) a javelin sized piece of White Oak from my left prehensilely necessary thump. Not to worry, it’s just a flesh wound.
Tomorrow is planing and stickering day for all 150 chassis.

This morning was moving day for the garage lumber leviathans. Nine manly dudes made short work of transporting and sawing off all the sharp, lethal(ha!) pointy ends of all the rather heavy White Oak cut-offs.
Brandon and his son Bryce stayed a little longer and helped with some initial milling. Bryce, the teenage shop wunderkind, squared off all 150 truck chassis. His dad Brandon and I did the initial milling of the box sides and bases.
Very productive day!
