Receptionist: "Do you prefer Steve or Steven?"
Me: "Steven."
Receptionist: "Is that with a "ph" or a "v?"
Me: "With a "v," not a "ph."

My birth name is Steven. It is written on my birth certificate. I was named after a favorite uncle of my father. It is how I sign my name. I am Steven.

I've been called Steve, Steve-o, "Stevie Wonder", "Stevie B", Even-Steven, Steverino, and Stevie (some of my tias even called me "tevie" when a little boy). Some of these names are somewhat "legitimate," like Steve, while others, not so much. I am not necessarily offended by all of them, but, they don't speak to how I see myself, how I want to be seen and known. It is not how I identify or who I am.

It may not make any difference to other "Stevens" how they are identified, and I don't judge them, but, it does matter to me.

Although of mixed bloodlines, I choose to identify with my Indigenous ancestors. My racial identity is Native and my ethnicity/culture is Chicano.

Por k lo Promueven la ?? America es Un continent America latina … es decir solo los Hispanic Heritage? What about ? Se visten de Indígenas! Pero nos excluyen! So el classism y el racism y la marguinalizacion, las organizacion son exclusivas??
