Today is an emotional day for all of us at Desert Whiskers Rescue.

Many of you have been following Meatball’s journey. After losing his owner to a sudden and unexpected death, Meatball came into our care and was believed to be a female. It wasn’t until he experienced a urinary blockage and underwent diagnostics that we discovered he was actually a male suffering from urinary crystals.

While we understand mistakes can happen, our hearts ache knowing this sweet 7-year-old boy may have been struggling much longer than we realized. Had we known sooner, we would have moved forward with PU surgery weeks ago.

Today, Meatball is undergoing PU surgery, and we are hopeful this procedure will give him the relief and quality of life he deserves. This poor boy has already endured the heartbreaking loss of the person he loved and now this difficult medical journey.

The surgery and medical expenses are expected to total approximately $2,200, a significant cost for our small rescue. Unfortunately, this comes at an especially difficult time. Over the last week, Desert Whiskers Rescue has taken in 12 cats from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, many of whom need extensive medical care and socialization. On top of that, three kittens rescued from the Henderson gas station abandonment case were rushed to the veterinarian this morning after they stopped eating shortly after coming into our care.

The reality is that our funds are disappearing quickly, but the needs of these animals do not stop. Every day brings another cat needing help, another emergency, another life depending on us to say yes.

We know we ask for help often, and we never take your support for granted. But today we are asking for your help once again. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small and every dollar goes directly toward helping Meatball and the many other cats currently in our care.

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to Resources for Rescues for this incredible donation of much-needed cat food for Desert Whiskers Rescue!

If you haven’t heard of them, please give them a follow today. Resources for Rescues does amazing work helping colony feeders, animal rescues, and people in our community who are struggling and need a helping hand. Their compassion reaches both the animals and the humans who care for them.

We especially want to thank them for their support during our current hoarding situation. They have been there every step of the way, helping not only the cats but also showing compassion and concern for the homeowner. Situations like this are never easy, and their willingness to help both the animals and the person involved has meant so much throughout this process.

Binky Update 🐾❤️

Binky is currently at the vet trying to get cleared for adoptions, and this sweet boy continues to amaze us every single day with how loving and resilient he is despite everything he has endured.

When we rescued Binky from the hoarding situation, it was obvious he had been suffering for a long time. His ear mites were absolutely unbearable for him, and you could tell how miserable and uncomfortable he had been living in those conditions.

He is also dealing with some voice box issues, so today the vets are making sure everything checks out okay. Sadly, several of the other cats from this situation were found with possible cancerous growths, so the vets are also carefully checking Binky for any signs of that as well.

On top of everything else, Binky had to be shaved around the upper part of his tail because he had a nasty wound that needed treatment and cleaning. It breaks our hearts knowing what these cats had to live through before help finally arrived.

But through all of the pain, fear, and neglect, Binky has turned out to be one of the sweetest souls imaginable. The cat who once hid in fear is now learning what love, safety, and kindness feel like. Watching him trust people and seek affection has been incredibly emotional for all of us.

Please keep Binky in your prayers and send all the positive thoughts you can today. We are hoping for good news because this beautiful 6-year-old boy deserves a second chance at life and a forever home filled with nothing but love. ❤️🐾

🐾 Wow what 6 days can do ❤️

Meet Huey, Dewey & Louie — 3 of the 5-month-old babies rescued from the hoarding situation.

Just 6 days ago, we couldn’t even speak to these boys without getting long drawn-out hisses and growls telling us to stay away. Their fear was heartbreaking, and honestly, you could see how little trust they had in people.

Now look at them.

All three boys are allowing pets, and two of them can already be handled. Watching these babies slowly realize they are finally safe has been one of the most emotional parts of this rescue.

For cats that came from the horrible conditions they lived in, these tiny moments are huge victories. Every soft blink, every little head lean into a pet, every second they choose love over fear reminds us why we fight so hard for these cats.

I personally want to thank every single Desert Whiskers foster that stepped up during this crisis. Without you opening your homes, giving your time, patience, and love, these cats would never get this chance.

And to all fosters out there helping rescues every day — thank you. People do not always see the hard emotional side of fostering scared and traumatized animals, but because of you, cats like Huey, Dewey, and Louie get the opportunity to heal and finally know what love feels like.

We still have many more kitties from this situation needing socialization and healing, but these boys remind us there is still hope. 🖤

Happy 18th Birthday Marty ❤️

Today we celebrate our beautiful Marty — one of our beloved house cats here at Desert Whiskers. We got him all the way back in 2008 in Burlingame, California when he was just 3 months old, and ever since then he has been part of our family and our heart.

For 18 amazing years this sweet boy has been there through so many chapters of life. Marty has always been such a gentle, loving soul, and even now while going through serious kidney issues, he continues to keep chugging along with strength and determination every single day.

Watching him grow old has been both beautiful and emotional. We know time with these babies is never long enough, but we are beyond grateful for every cuddle, every purr, every late-night moment, and every memory this handsome boy has given us over the years.

Please help us wish Marty the happiest 18th birthday today. We love you so much sweet boy, and we hope we still get many more beautiful memories with you ❤️🐾

💔 UPDATE ON BINKY — ONE OF THE KITTIES FROM THE HOARDING SITUATION 🐾

Binky literally had tears in his eyes and seemed so relieved to finally be rescued. At the same time, he was scared and extremely nervous around humans — and honestly, after surviving in horrid conditions for over 5 years, who could blame him? We all would be too.

But in only 4 short days, this sweet boy has already started to come around. Out of all the cats from this situation, he has definitely become one of the biggest love bugs. Once he realized he was finally safe, all he wanted was kindness, love, and gentle affection.

Any slight movement around these kitties easily scares them, so patience and moving slowly is the key to gaining their trust. After living in fear for so long, everything is new and overwhelming for these babies.

But for Binky, finally breathing fresh air, feeling safe, and knowing kindness is helping him heal that much faster. Every single day we see a little more of the loving boy he truly is. Watching him slowly realize he no longer has to survive in fear has been incredibly emotional for all of us.

This handsome 6-year-old boy truly deserves a second chance at life. Right now we are working through some health hurdles and making sure he gets everything he needs medically, emotionally, and physically.

We love you, Binky ❤️ and we promise to make sure you find the loving forever home you always deserved. 🐾

🌸 Beautiful Olive Still Needs Her Forever Home 🌸

Meet Olive, our gorgeous 5-year-old Domestic Short Hair calico/tortie mix who is still patiently waiting for someone to give her the loving home she deserves. She has now been in adoptions for about 2 months over at the PetSmart at Tropicana & Ft. Apache in Las Vegas.

Olive was sadly owner dumped and was originally going to be released back outside, but once we met her we knew there was no way this sweet girl belonged on the streets. She is simply too friendly and loving for outdoor life. ❤️

We truly believe Olive may not have come from the best conditions before coming to us, and because of that she can sometimes growl, hiss, or even give a little swat when first meeting new people. But please understand — that is just her way of protecting herself until she learns she can trust you. Once she feels safe and comfortable, you can see the sweet loving cat she really is.

Olive would likely do fine with other cats and calm dogs with proper introductions. Because she can become overstimulated at times, she would do best in a quieter home without young children. She just needs someone patient, understanding, and willing to give her the time she deserves.

Behind those beautiful green eyes is a cat that truly wants love and companionship. She deserves a soft bed, a calm home, and someone who will never abandon her again.

🚨 KITTENS ABANDONED IN DANGEROUS HEAT 🚨

Just when we thought we had rescued enough cats from the hoarding situation… now this.

Four tiny kittens were found dumped inside a plastic storage bin at a Chevron gas station in Cadence in Henderson, in nearly 100-degree heat. 💔

Thankfully, one of our amazing fosters happened to stop at the gas station while on a work break and heard these poor babies screaming for help. If nobody had heard them, these kittens likely would not have survived much longer. 😢

We are currently trying to work with the gas station owner to see if there is any surveillance footage so a report can be made to Henderson Police.

And just so people know — Henderson Animal Shelter WOULD have taken these babies in if the person had a Henderson ID. There were safe options available. There was absolutely no reason to leave innocent kittens trapped in a plastic bin to suffer in this heat.

This is NOT ok. Animals are not trash. These babies deserved better.

A huge thank you to our incredible foster for always staying alert and stepping in when these animals need help most. ❤️

Do we have space for these babies? No.
Will we still make it work somehow? Absolutely.

Like we have said before, we are absolutely drowning with kittens right now. If anyone can help by donating kitten food, wet food, litter, or supplies, it would be greatly appreciated and helps us continue saving babies like these. 🐾
