A highlight from the 2026 CLPPP Annual Recipients Meeting at CDC! 📸

Our Program Director and close partner from Southern Nevada Health District had the opportunity to hear from and meet Dr. Bruce Lanphear, whose research has helped shape the field of childhood lead poisoning prevention.

His work has helped advance our understanding of the health effects of lead exposure, including the risks associated with exposure at low levels.

It's not every day you get to meet someone whose research has helped inform the work you do every day! 💚

Say hello to our Fall 2026 intern, Luis! 👋

Luis is an undergraduate student studying public health at and will be graduating this December! He's already jumped into some exciting health education projects with NvCLPPP by developing resources about lead in spices.

We're happy to have him on the team as he wraps up his undergraduate journey and can't wait to see what he accomplishes this semester! 💚

⚠️ Potential risk of lead contamination ⚠️ Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning is being recalled due to potential lead contamination. The recalled product is packaged in a 90 g (3.2 oz) transparent plastic container with lot code GAP11304. The product's UPC is 794711005484.
The product was distributed to retailers between November 18, 2025 and September 7, 2026. While Nevada was not listed among the distribution states, families in Nevada should still check their cinnamon products, including products purchased online or from retailers outside Nevada.
💡 Why it Matters:
There is no safe level of lead. Children under six years old are especially vulnerable to lead exposure because their brains and bodies are still developing. Many children who are exposed to lead may not look, act, or feel sick. Parents and caregivers should take the recommended steps to prevent further exposure.
👉 What to do:
STOP using the recalled product immediately.
Discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Contact your child’s healthcare provider if you are concerned about possible lead exposure and ask about a blood lead test.

A lot has happened since 2006, and we have so many people to thank for helping make NvCLPPP what it is today.

Over the next year, we'll be taking a trip down memory lane, sharing stories, celebrating milestones, and hearing from the staff, advisory board members, and partners who have been part of our journey.

🌎 September 26 is World Environmental Health Day!

This year's theme, "Environmental Health: Standing with Science to Protect Communities," highlights the important role science plays in protecting the health of our communities.

At NvCLPPP, we see that connection every day. From identifying potential lead hazards to supporting families and working with our public health partners, science helps inform our efforts to prevent childhood lead poisoning across Nevada.

Last week, while traveling in Northern Nevada, our Program Manager made a quick stop along the highway to capture a familiar sight: our very own NvCLPPP billboard! It's always exciting to see our messages out in the community.

⚠️ Lead Recall Alert⚠️
The Lontcs Busy Board toys are being recalled because the toys’ zipper contains levels of lead that exceed the standard set in the federal lead paint ban. The toys consist of a wood board and metal handle with multiple attached components, including a brown zipper, metal latch, caster wheel, doorbell, lock with keys, music box, duck puzzle, abacus, and fidget spinner.
The recalled product was sold online at Amazon from May 2024 through July 2026 for about $31.

💡 Why it Matters:
Lead is toxic and can be especially harmful to young children. Even low levels of lead can affect a child’s growth, learning, and development. Most children with lead poisoning do not look or act sick. Parents and caregivers should take the recommended steps to prevent further exposure.

What You Can Do:
✅ STOP using the recalled product immediately.
📞 Contact SQT for a full refund.
↩️ Destroy the toy by unscrewing its components, mark the board “RECALLED,” and dispose of the product after sending a photo to SQT.
🗣️ Tell others – share this information with family, friends, colleagues, and community partners.
🩺 Contact your healthcare provider if you are concerned about potential lead exposure.
