This week’s Top 3 carries three very different stories. Three different rhythms of waiting. Three different kinds of hope.

#3 — Buschi (A1409557)
7 years old. 76 pounds. And what can only be described as a very refined understanding of how to enjoy life in a shelter environment.

He swims like it’s a calling. Naps like it’s a discipline. Walks on leash like it’s something he invented and perfected. He’s the kind of dog who feels less like “high energy” and more like “well-directed joy.” And somehow, after more than 70 days, he is still here — still showing up the same way: gentle, present, and deeply people-oriented.

We call him the Gentleman. Because it fits.

#2 — Paula (HACC-A-33564)
6-year-old German Shepherd. Found as a stray.

Paula doesn’t ask for attention in loud ways. She doesn’t rush into space. She observes first. Trusts slowly. And when she does choose you, it feels intentional — like something quiet and meaningful just settled into place.

She is still learning the world is safe. Still becoming the version of herself she was meant to be. And in the meantime, she waits with patience most of us underestimate in dogs like her.

The Quiet Loyalty Queen.

#1 — Mercury (HACC-A-33521)
3-year-old Pit / Rottweiler mix.

Found as a stray. Microchipped. And still… no one came back.

There’s something especially hard about that kind of story. Because it means there was once a home. Once a person. Once a life where he belonged — and then, silence.

But Mercury didn’t stop being who he is.

He’s still here. Still social. Still present. Still waiting for the moment someone finally looks at him and says “you again” instead of “who are you.”

Three dogs. Three different stories.

All still waiting for the same thing — someone to notice.

We don't post like this often. But we need to be real with you today. 💛
Mercury is a 3-year-old pit and rottweiler mix who came into the Henderson Animal Care Center as a stray.
His owner had a microchip on file. and never came back.

In the shelter, he's vocal. He pulls on leash. He stays to himself. And from the outside, that might look like a hard dog.
But staff know something the kennel doesn't show: When it gets quiet, Mercury settles.
He breathes. He adjusts. He's not a difficult dog — he's a scared one. And scared dogs deserve patience, not judgment.

He would thrive with an experienced handler, a calm home, and someone who's willing to stay past the hard days to see who he really is.

Mercury's Vegas Rating:
12/10. The Misunderstood High Roller.
The one who needed someone to stay long enough to see it.

This 5 yr old mellow guy is ready for someone to take him home. He's a little shy at first but loves to be pet and roll around in the grass once he settles in. Great on the leash, doesn't pull and will stay by your side until you stop. He knows when he is hot and needs a break and will guide you to some shade for a cool down session. I was his first foster walk outside the shelter and you wouldn't have known it by his steady ease.

Dogs get surrendered. Families call the shelter instead of us — because they didn't know another option existed, or because we couldn't say yes. And overcrowded shelters lose space for the dogs already waiting.

Dogs suffer with untreated conditions. Infections that could have been $150 to treat become something much worse.
Because money wasn't there at the right moment.
Dogs face emergency euthanasia. Not because they were too sick to save.
Because the cost of saving them was out of reach — and no fund existed to close the gap.
