The Culinary Academy has a huge surplus of available food that was made available through a number of very large anonymous charitable donations to the Academy. The program was originally established to provide emergency food assistance for displaced members of the Culinary Union. However, due to the large amount of food that is available, the program is now open to all Clark County residents who are in need of food assistance. The only criteria is that you be a resident of Clark County.
All you have to do is call 702-227-8842 or go to https://forms.theculinaryacademy.org/calv/nvcaresfa , answer a few questions (name, address, telephone number, name on ID, email address, zip code, household size. etc.) pick a day and time to go pick up your food, then get your order confirmation number for pickup.
Food pick up times are currently are Monday thru Thursday from 7AM to 12:30 PM at the culinary Academy. Picking up food on behalf of other people is allowed. The person picking up the food will simply have to show the ID of the people that they are picking up food for. The pickup address is The Las Vegas Culinary Academy 710 W. Lake Mead Blvd, NLV, 89030. Seniors (60 and over) are eligible for free food delivery.
Each order consists of 40 pounds of food and you can order as often as you like. A typical food order consists of meat, rice, beans, pasta, onions, fruits and other veggies. Nothing is cooked and the meat is frozen. Lastly, you can pick up as often as you want, no limits. The program will end on 12/31 or until all the program's funds have been depleted.

In 2019, the Nevada legislature passed SB543 (Pupil Centered Funding Plan) to update the state’s funding formula. The bill created a commission to determine the “optimal funding” amount needed for our students. Nevada ranks 48th in funding which is linked to our low academic rankings and a reason we don’t have the resources needed for students and educators.

The commission is currently discussing the amount needed for our students to be successful and creating a plan to raise the needed revenue in ten years to appropriately fund our schools. These recommendations will be made to legislators for consideration. Thursday, Nov. 19th at 2:30pm the Commission is holding a public comment meeting. The public can join the meeting virtual to give public comment or submit comments for the record. While much work is needed to finalize a new funding formula Nevada's children cannot continue to wait for action.

Participate in the public meeting by registering here https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2782668627763812623

Submit written public comment to: [email protected]

Urge the Commission to finalize recommendations for the 2021 Legislative. Share how essential funding education is to your student. Ask the Commission to finalize benchmarks to restore recent cuts and move towards adequate and optimal funding. More studies are not needed, education is under-funded and the Commission should develop a plan to raise the revenue required for equitable education funding. While we are in challenging times, Nevada's children still need resources to receive the best education possible.

Let the Commission know why this is important to your child and Nevada’s future.
