Family preservation and/or reunification is one of National CASA/GAL’s guiding principles. Kinship care allows children and youth to maintain family relationships and cultural heritage within their own community and familiar surroundings. CASA/GAL volunteers are trained in cultural competency and offer support so children and families can stay connected.

We know children do best when they can safely remain with their parents or with other family members. Meeting a family’s basic needs like housing and food security can help prevent child abuse. CASA/GAL volunteers connect children and families involved in foster care to resources by working with child welfare employees and school social workers to improve outcomes.
