In Recognition of Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day 🎗️

Today, ACS CAN Nevada proudly recognizes two of our outstanding volunteers, Patti Kellerhouse and Frances Malinis, who continue to stand strong in the fight against metastatic breast cancer and advocate for policies that make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.

💗 Patti Kellerhouse — A two-time metastatic breast cancer survivor who continues to use her voice and experience to advocate for others.

💗 Frances Malinis — Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in September 2025, Frances continues to stand alongside fellow advocates in the fight for better support and access to care.

Metastatic breast cancer, also known as stage IV breast cancer, occurs when cancer spreads beyond the breast to other parts of the body, including the bones, lungs, liver, and brain. This diagnosis impacts thousands of families across Nevada and brings challenges that require compassionate care, resources, and support.

That’s why advocacy matters. ACS CAN Nevada continues to support policies that help patients access the care they need, including efforts to expand Medicare eligibility for people living with metastatic breast cancer, providing critical support when it’s needed most.

🎗️ Early detection saves lives. Mammograms and access to recommended breast cancer screenings are essential. We urge Congress to take action to help ensure everyone has access to these potentially lifesaving screenings and the care they deserve.

Today and every day, we honor Patti and Frances, along with everyone living with metastatic breast cancer. Their courage, dedication, and commitment remind us why we must keep fighting for better policies, better access to care, and a future where no one faces cancer alone.

ACS CAN Nevada volunteers had the opportunity to see and question Aaron D. Ford about where he stands on important cancer issues during Monday night’s Healthcare Townhall.

Candidate questions:

Will you oppose policies that further reduce Medicaid eligibility for Nevadans or create administrative barriers, and support policies that ensure timely access to cancer screening and treatment? Yes

Will you support annual funding and programming for life-saving to***co prevention and cessation programs in Nevada? Yes

Cancer survivors from Nevada met with the state's congressional delegation and their staffs on September 15th in Washington, D.C. as part of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network's (ACS CAN) Leadership Summit and Lobby Day.

The volunteer advocates asked Congress to support the highest possible funding increases for cancer research and prevention programs and to support the Clinical Trial Modernization Act (CTMA).
